Free Pick: Missouri vs. Minnesota Point Spreads & Citrus Bowl Preview

Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl:  Tigers vs Golden Gophers Predictions

College football betting action sees the Missouri Tigers taking on the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Thursday January 1 in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.  Cappers Picks provides free NCAAF handicapping tips all season long.

Mizzou made it all the way to the SEC title game making this one look like a huge mismatch. Minnesota will probably have to play its best game of the season to get a victory in this one between the B10 and B12.

Missouri

The Tigers had another very strong season. They won the SEC East again and went to the title game where they got whacked by Alabama.

This is a good team but just not in the league with the Crimson Tide this season.

Over the years the Tigers have developed a great reputation on the defensive side of the ball.

They are especially strong up front and that is going to be critical as they take on Minnesota and their running game. That battle will determine the ball game.

It is funny how the Tigers have shifted from their pass happy days led by Chase Daniel to their heavy, defense first current iteration.

It has played well in the SEC though and it will serve them well as they look to stop the Gophers and win their third bowl game in a row.

This team looks to get a lead and then slow down the game on the way to victory.

They can be explosive at times but not as much as in the past.

Minnesota

I don’t see the Gophers getting to the top but they are factor in the Big Ten again after some lean years.

This is their third straight bowl game under coach Jerry Kill and during the regular season they played Ohio State as well as anybody else in the conference losing by just 7 points.

The Gophers closed the season with 4 straight ATS wins and when they get their running game going can be tough to beat as they can really shorten the game. If they were to get this one it would really electrify the program.

David Cobb might not get a lot of national attention but he is a really good running back.

The B10 was loaded with them this season and he contributed more than 1500 yards on the ground. He is a bruiser and takes advantage of the fact that QB Mitch Leidner is also a running threat.

[dfads params=’groups=63739&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Minnesota has to be able to run the ball because Leidner is not a strong thrower, completing only 48% of his passes.

NCAAF Handicapping Trends:

  • Tigers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss.
  • Over is 4-0 in Tigers last 4 neutral site games.
  • Tigers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a double-digit loss at home.
  • Golden Gophers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
  • Golden Gophers are 5-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Under is 4-0 in Golden Gophers last 4 games on grass.

NCAAF Prediction:  Missouri -5

The SEC vs. the Big Ten is always interesting but this is a mismatch.

NCAAF Score prediction:  Missouri 28 – Minnesota 14

The Tigers will exert their strength early and force the Gophers out of their comfort zone. It will result in a fairly easy win and cover.
