I think both teams will fight well and play hard and we should have a good one.

Mississippi State

It might have ultimately come up short but Mississippi State had a fine season. They were ranked #1 for a stretch and their only losses were to Alabama and Ole Miss, both on the road.

That last one was in the annual Egg Bowl so you can bet the Bulldogs are itching to get the sour taste out of their mouth in this one. Even though they did not make the playoffs this team has a chance to do something no other MSU team has done, which is to win 11 games in a season.

They have only cracked double digits 2 other times in their history.

The Bulldogs might have had the 9th best defense in terms of points allowed but I was surprised to see they had the 9th best offense in terms of yards this season.

They are balanced too with Dak Prescott both a running and throwing threat and RB Josh Robinson bowling his way through defenders. Both losses were close and there is good reason they are the favourite in this one.

Georgia Tech

I have been a huge backer of Georgia Tech this season and as a result very pleased with their 10-3 (9-4) ATS season.

This team very nearly ended Florida State’s run in the ACC title game and it’s three losses are by only a total of 13 points.

To give you an idea of where things stands playoffs aside FSU was just a 3.5 point favourite while MSU is sitting at -7 currently.

I am not saying that is justified but it says a lot about this team and the one they are playing on New Year’s Eve.

Even though they have had extra time to prepare do not expect the Yellow Jackets to change up what they do.

They are an option team pure and simple though QB Justin Thomas might be a better thrower than others that have preceded him.

Even though they are run first it hurts that they will be missing their best pass catcher in DeAndre Smelter.

Still, GT will challenge the Bulldogs defense as much as any opponent they have played this season

NCAAF Handicapping Trends:

  • Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss.
  • Over is 6-1 in Bulldogs last 7 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.
  • Bulldogs are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.
  • Yellow Jackets are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games on grass.
  • Yellow Jackets are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
  • Yellow Jackets are 5-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

NCAAF Prediction:  Georgia Tech +7

Georgia Tech has been killing it all season long and they will push Mississippi State to the brink in this one.

NCAAF Score prediction:  Mississippi State 31 – Georgia Tech 30

The Yellow Jackets are a better defensive team than you think and they will be able to keep pace with one of the SEC’s best.
