Boise State cruised most of the season and just made it into the title game after getting past Colorado State and Utah State after their three-way tie last week.
The Mountain West may have been more competitive this season than most in recent years with the uprising of Colorado State and the ageless play of Utah State despite losing big players each season.

With Fresno State and Boise State battling it out for the conference title, things are finally in order. While the Broncos are massively favored, you can never count out conference rivals in a game this important.
Fresno State
Being caught in the log jam that is the Mountain West’s “West” division, the Bulldogs have had their fair share of ups and downs. Now an underdog in the title game, the Bulldogs must reach deep down and gut this one out if they want to stand a chance.
At the helm this season for Fresno State is Brian Burrell. Going 212 of 367 on the season, Burrell has racked up 2,244 yards through the air as well as 21 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. He’s also got 90 carries this season for 319 yards and 3 scores via the ground.

Burrell’s biggest target by far this season has been Josh Harper. Harper has 76 catches for 941 yards and 7 touchdowns. The next closest in receiving is Aaron Peck, who has 27 catches for 348 yards and 3 scores.
On the ground, the team leaders this season has been Marteze Waller. On the year, he’s got 195 carries for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also has 117 yards receiving. Next in rushing is Josh Quezada who has 107 carries for 435 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. He’s also got 178 yards receiving and a touchdown.
#22 Boise State
Featuring a two-headed scoring monster of Grant Hedrick and Jay Ajayi, the Broncos have propelled themselves to yet another Mountain West title game. After coming out of a tough Mountain West “Mountain” division, the Broncos are more than ready for this one.
On the season, QB Grant Hedrick is 261 of 265 for 3,232 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Also second on the team in rushing, Hedrick has 138 rushes for 482 yards and 6 ground scores.
His rushing counterpart, Jay Ajayi, has arguably been one of the best running backs in college football this season. The nation’s #5 rusher, Ajayi has racked up 1,619 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground via 303 carries. He’s also third in team receiving, with 45 grabs for 536 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Leading the team in receiving is Thomas Sperbeck, who has 38 receptions for 658 yards and 3 scores. Not far behind is Shane Williams-Rhodes, who has 68 catches for 585 yards and 7 touchdowns. Williams-Rhodes is also the team’s third leading rusher with 184 yards on 13 carries.

On defense, the team will be well covered. Looking to stop the Bulldogs pass game is Darian Thompson, who has 7 interceptions on the season. Kamalei Correa has 10 sacks on the season as well and could put pressure on the QB or set the edges to stop the run for the Broncos.

Yes, this looks like it should be a beatdown of the Bulldogs by Boise State. Like I’ve said all year long, though, is that conference games are always unpredictable. That is something we have all seen first hand.
In this situation, I don’t know if Fresno State has a chance. Between the lopsided statistics and records tilting in favor of the Broncos, this game could be over before it even started.
On top of everything else, this is literally a home game for Boise State.
