Many have pointed to the Rebels as a dark horse in the SEC West, despite the presence of elite programs like Alabama, Auburn, and LSU, and to keep pace they’ll need to get started on the right foot.

As for Boise State, they exit the very successful Chris Petersen-era, as the team’s former bench boss moves on to Washington to coach the Huskies. Former Bronco player and assistant coach Bryan Harsin moves into his place.

Harsin served as the team’s offensive coordinator from 2006-10, and the Boise native returns home after one solid season as the head coach at Arkansas State, hoping to replicate the kind of success Arkansas State’s previous coach, Gus Malzahn, found upon his departure.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze also spent one season as head coach at Arkansas State, and is now set to enter his third season in Mississippi.

The Broncos have won 155 games since the beginning of the 2000 season, which is more wins than any other program has enjoyed in that time frame, but 2013’s eight wins represent the program’s lowest win total since 2001.

Senior quarterback Grant Hedrick hopes to improve on what was a decent junior season, during which he threw for 16 touchdowns and five interceptions, adding 277 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

The team needs him to be effective. His top target is fellow senior Matt Miller, who last season brought in 88 balls for 1,140 yards and 12 scores.

Junior running back Jay Ajayi is the guy who the offense relies on more than any other player.

He’ll soon be applying his trade in the pro ranks, but for now he continues to churn out yards in Idaho. A year ago he rushed for 1,425 yards and 18 touchdowns.

It’s all about the offense at Ole Miss, and that unit is led by senior quarterback Bo Wallace, who last season threw for 3,346 yards and 18 touchdowns.

He needs to bring down the turnovers if the team is to live up to its potential. The health of sophomore defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche is also a concern.

FREE Boise State vs. Ole Miss Pick:

The over looks to be the play in this contest, as both teams will be able to get their points. The Broncos also seem to be giving a few too many points away in this one, even if Coach Petersen has moved on.

The Broncos are 6-2 ATS in their last eight neutral site games.

The over is 9-3 in the Rebels’ last 12 games played on field turf.

The play: Boise State +10, Over 52.5
