Petty was absent a week ago due to a back injury he suffered when he took a hard hit in the team’s opener, but the Bears’ offense didn’t miss him all that much in a 70-6 victory, even if it did come over an FCS opponent in Northwestern State.

The majority of the work in that one was done by backups, at least on offense. Petty and the team’s top four receivers were all out of action, though quarterback Seth Russell and a host of freshmen playmakers rolled out 720 yards of offense.

The most electrifying of those freshmen has been wideout KD Cannon, who ranks sixth in the nation with 282 receiving yards, adding four touchdowns along the way.

The Baylor defense played just as well, surrendering six points and 269 yards over the first two weeks of the season, not allowing a touchdown through two games.. They’ll face their stiffest test yet in a Buffalo team that has some offensive punch. Quarterback Joe Licata threw for five second half touchdown passes in last week’s 47-39 loss to Army.

Through the first two games of the season, Licata if 60-of-86 for 699 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions, completing touchdown passes to five different receiving options. Buffalo went to Baylor a year ago and lost that game 70-13.

There should be a fair number of points this time around as well, as the Buffalo defense lost its most talented playmaker to the NFL in the offseason in Khalil Mack.

The Bulls currently rank 110th out of the 124 FBS teams in points allowed, surrendering 37.5 points per game.

Free Baylor vs. Buffalo Pick:

Baylor just has too much firepower for Buffalo to keep up with. The Bears have made a habit of running up the score on lesser opponents, so the spread in this one shouldn’t be too much of a concern.

[dfads params=’groups=63739&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Additionally, there should be plenty of points in this one. Baylor certainly knows how to put up points in bunches, and they go up against a soft Buffalo defense in this one. The Bulls can also score points behind quarterback Joe Licata, which should make for an eventful evening.

The Bears are 24-8 ATS in their last 32 games overall, and they are 6-1 ATS in their last seven non-conference games.

The over is 10-2 in the Bears’ last 12 non-conference games, and it is 7-0 in the Bulls’ last seven non-conference games.

4* Freeplay: Baylor -35, Over 69
