In what is quietly becoming a true rivalry, Stanford heads to Washington this weekend for their annual Pac-12 North battle. Washington has played Stanford well in recent history, especially at home, and will look to upset Stanford once again in Seattle.

While Stanford is still fighting to stay in the top of the pack in the conference, Washington is in the middle of an identity shift and looking to make themselves a legitimate contender in the North. With a young secondary. young offensive players and the veteran defensive line, the Huskies want to make some noise.

Despite Stanford’s early conference loss to USC, they didn’t slip far in the rankings and have since recovered. David Shaw and Kevin Hogan have had strange luck against Washington and would like to come away with a much needed victory.

#16 Stanford

Coming off a bye week, David Shaw and company are looking to continue to stay in the Pac-12 playoff picture. After losing 13-10 to USC, Stanford came back and shut out Army before their bye. With a balanced offense and a stout defense, the Cardinal want to make a statement in Seattle.

Quarterback Kevin Hogan has been the leader, completing 54 of 74 passes for 705 yards, 7 touchdowns and an interception. He’s also got 34 yards and a touchdown via the ground.

Hogan’s biggest target this season has been Ty Montgomery. Montgomery has 22 receptions for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns. Austin Hooper is second in receiving with 12 catches for 170 yards and a touchdown. And one of Hogan’s favorite targets from the past, Devin Cajuste, is leading the team in touchdowns with 3 so far.

Three running backs have been splitting carries, almost evenly. Barry Sanders, Jr. has 18 rushes for 142 yards, Kelsey Young has 21 attempts for 122 yards and Remound Wright has 15 rushes for 88 yards.

The defense has played as a unit and the stats show it. As a defense, the team has 22 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 3 interceptions, 9 passes defended, 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

Washington

The Chris Peterson era is off to a 4-0 start in Seattle. Thanks to a combination of youth and a very experienced defensive line that is wreaking havoc in the backfield. Now that conference play is start, the Huskies are coming back to reality – a grueling Pac-12 gauntlet.

Since installing Cyler Miles at quarterback, the offense has taken off. In 3 games, Miles has completed 48 of 71 passes for 525 yards and 5 touchdowns. On the ground, he has amassed 114 yards and 3 touchdowns on 28 carries.

Lavon Coleman has done a good job replacing the departed Bishop Sankey, although he’s had help. On the season, Coleman has run the ball 65 times for 286 yards and 1 touchdown. Behind him is Dwayne Washington, who has 45 carries for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns.

John Ross is leading the team in receiving yards with 224 yards and 3 touchdowns on 6 receptions, while Jaydon Mickens is leading in receptions with 20 receptions for 200 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Husky defense has been a tale of two stories: a pass defense that gives up a lot of yards, but makes key plays when needed and a strong run defense that has been menacing to opposing quarterbacks. Danny Shelton is leading the nation with 7 sacks while Haouli Kikaha has 6.
