Last year, Arizona State downed the Buffaloes 54-13 in Tempe en route to their Pac-12 South title. This year, Colorado is hoping to return the favor in Boulder.

To do so, they will have to top a potent Sun Devil offense that is ranked nationally. Oh yeah, they play some pretty good defense, too.

#16 Arizona State

Multiple milestones were reached last week in Arizona State’s game against the Lobos. Quarterback Taylor Kelly is now 7th on the Sun Devils All-Time passing yards with 7,135 yards and his 60 touchdowns are good for 5th in team history.

On the season, Kelly is 29 of 47 for 430 yards and 3 touchdowns on the year. He also has 13 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown. It hasn’t been just the Taylor Kelly show in Tempe, either.

Running back D.J. Foster has been a standout in the Sun Devil offense, ranking himself nationally in yards (363 – 3rd), yards per game (181.5 – 5th), and rushing touchdowns (4 – 5th). He went off for 216 yards on the round last week against New Mexico, just the third Sun Devil to go over 200 yards in a game since 1994.

The receiving corps is led by Jaelen Strong who has 13 receptions for 189 yards and a touchdown. Of those 13 catches, 11 went for first downs. Next in receiving is Cameron Smith who has 5 catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.

While the numbers aren’t flashy, the Sun Devil defense has been stout, holding teams to an average of 143 yards passing per game this season, good for 20th in the nation.

Colorado

While UMass gave Colorado a huge scare last weekend, the Buffaloes held on to win. That helped take the sting off the opening week loss to in-state rival Colorado State. Colorado hasn’t fared well at home recently, especially after joining the Pac-12.

Quarterback Sefo Liufau had a good game against UMass, going 26 for 42 with 318 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception. That puts his season total at 559 yards passing, 5 touchdowns and 1 interception. His leading receiver is Nelson Spruce, who has 17 receptions for 249 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Also over the century mark is Shay Fields who has 14 receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown.

The ground game has been somewhat stagnant thus far. Christian Powell leads the team with 24 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown while Michael Adkins II has 21 carries for 73 yards.

The Buffalo defense has been stifled this year, allowing 31 and then 38 points so far this year in their two games.

Leading the team in tackles is Addison Gillam, who has 22 on the season including 5.5 tackles for loss and 2 pass break ups.

Week 3 NCAA Football Prediction

While I would like to give the Buffs a chance in this one, I don’t think it’s even close.

Free NCAA Betting Pick: 4* Play on the OVER (68)

Between Arizona State’s depth of talent and Colorado’s knack for giving up lots of points, this game could be over in the first quarter.

Final Week 3 Score: #16 Arizona State 56 – Colorado 20
