Bowling Green (9-3) secured a spot in the MAC championship for the 12th time after it dominated opponents in its last four games to end the regular season, where it outscored the opposition, 176-17.

The Falcons are lead by running back Travis Greene, who ranks second in the conference in rushing behind Huskies Heisman Trophy candidate Jordan Lynch, with 1,422 yards.

Bowling Green also backs up its league’s third-best rushing offense, with a defense that ranks fifth in the country in scoring defense and seventh in total defense. As a unit the Falcons defense has not allowed a second-half point during its last four games, holding  a solid Buffalo Bulls vaunted rushing attack to only 46 yards on ground while totaling 490 yards themselves their last time out.

Greene led the way with 129 yards and a score, while Matt Johnson, who has struggled to connect through the air on all season, added 72 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Johnson finished going 11-of- 26 for 230 yards with a TD and an interception.

Meanwhile, the Huskies (12-0) tied a school record with their 12th straight win last Tuesday and have won 24 of their last 25 overall. Another win would allow them  to become the first school since Marshall to win three straight MAC championships.

Led by Lynch, who broke his own NCAA record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 321 against Western Michigan, it’s no surprise that Northern Illinois is in the MAC title again as they eye back-to-back conference championships.

Lynch has struggled through the air this season, but had an uncharacteristic night against the Broncos,  completing 5-of-17 for 39 yards and a touchdown but a good day on the ground was all this offense needed from their star.

Matt’s Free Prediction

Bowling Green has been on fire to close the regular season and that’s been on both sides of the ball.

Nevertheless, Northern Illinois has been perfect, which is tough to go against.
