Iowa State Cyclones vs. No. 11 Kansas State Wildcats Preview

They are a double-digit underdog in this away game and it is not hard to see why since the Wildcats have a great rushing offense and Iowa State has given up at least 200 rushing yards in 5 games this season. NCAAF lines have Kansas State as 10.5 home favorites with a total of 52.

In their last games Iowa State lost to Oklahoma 26-6 and Kansas State beat a ranked Texas team 17-13.

The Wildcats have the nation’s 30th ranked rushing offense and they are led by duel-threat QB Collin Klein, who is the team’s leading rusher with 1,013 yards, and 15 TD and RB John Hubert (813 yards 2 TD). That is not good for an Iowa State team that only ranks 98th in the nation defending the run and gave up 253 rushing yards to Oklahoma last week.

Klein can also air it out with a solid WR corps and before the Texas game he had passed for over 230 yards in his previous 2 games. Still, the run defense is key in this match up for the Cyclones and there is a 70% chance of rain in this game, which helps the Wildcats since they have a solid rushing attack. Iowa State scored 2 big upsets after Jared Barnett took over at QB, but he struggled last week only going 13/28 for 125 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. He has decent receiving corps and may want to air it out since Wildcats only rank 108th in the nation in pass defense. However, that may more difficult if the skies open up.

Iowa State has a solid rushing attack ranked 37th in the nation led by James White and Jeff Woody, but they may find it hard to find room to run facing Kansas State and their 27th ranked rushing defense.

It is pretty basic for the Cyclones, as they have to forget about their game against Oklahoma where they were out-gained 509 yards to 245 yards and committed 4 turnovers.

Betting Trends

This season Iowa State is 6-5 ATS and has an O/U record of 4-7 and Kansas State is 9-2 ATS and has an O/U record of 7-4.
Iowa State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against teams with a winning record, and has an Under record of 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog.
Kansas State is 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, and has an Under record of 4-0 in their last 4 games as a home favorite.

Jason’s Pick: The Cyclones have been a better team since they changed QB’s, but this game is simply not a good match up for them.

Kansas State will have a big game running the ball and their D will play well. Take the Wildcats to win and cover and go with the Under as well, as I think this will not be a high scoring game.
