Bet On NCAA Football – Hoosiers Aim For First Win Of 2010 In Illinois

Before College Football Gambling fans turn their attention to other sports betting events this week, we have the Thursday NCAA game of the day pick for you. It’s time for our weekly Football picks for online ncaa football betting action.

Team records:
Indiana: 4-2 SU, 2-3 ATS
Illinois: 3-3 SU, 3-2 ATS

Those who bet on NCAA football won’t hear about Indiana-Illinois when the big games of the week are discussed, but these two are aiming to do something they haven’t done a lot of lately, and that’s get to a bowl game. Illinois has gone bowling twice since 1999, while the Hoosiers have done so just once since 1993.

Indiana Illinois Betting – Saturday, October 23rd, 12:00 PM ET

The Hoosiers (4-2, 0-2) got a massive day from Ben Chappell in a 36-34 win at home over Arkansas State, as he was 26-of-42 for 382 yards and four touchdowns, but more importantly, he didn’t throw any picks.

Tandon Doss and Damarlo Belcher each had over 100 yards receiving yards and a touchdown catch for the Hoosiers, who racked up 495 yards and are now fifth in the nation in the air. The defense was admittedly poor and they allowed 20 points in a frantic fourth quarter, but they did enough to hold on for the win, or maybe it was the offense won in spite of them.

Covering the spread would have been a sports betting bonus, but the Hoosiers failed to do so.

The Fighting Illini (3-3, 1-2) hung with Michigan State in the first half before fading to a 26-6 loss, and it was turnovers that killed them. Nathan Scheelhaase was 15-of-27 for 141 yards, but his picks accounted for three of Illinois’ four turnovers, and the Fighting Illini aren’t even close to being good enough to overcome that many mistakes.

Other than that, the Illini fared pretty well, taking a 6-3 lead into halftime, but the Spartans made great adjustments, and the Illini shot themselves in the foot.

Your pay per head sportsbook has Illinois as a 13.5-point favorite at home, where they are 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS in their last five meetings with the Hoosiers, who are 2-8 SU in their last 10 road games, but a respectable 6-4 ATS.

The Fighting Illini are only 4-6 SU in their last 10 at home, and 2-6 ATS, so this won’t be easy. Illinois’ defense has to figure out how to slow down Indiana’s passing attack, because the Hoosiers don’t have a ground game.

If they can force Chappell into making some mistakes, they have a good chance of covering the sports betting spread. On the other side of the ball, Scheelhaase has to take care of the pigskin because if he makes mistakes, Indiana can turn that into points very quickly.

Look for Illinois to keep the ball on the ground, thus controlling the clock and keeping the Hoosiers on the sideline.

Betting Trends:

The total has gone OVER in 6 of Indiana’s last 9 games on the road
Indiana is 5-10 SU in its last 15 games
The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Indiana’s last 8 games when playing Illinois
Indiana is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games
Illinois is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games when playing at home against Indiana
The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Illinois’s last 8 games when playing Indiana
Illinois is 6-15 SU in its last 21 games

We’re fine to make a SU bet on Illinois, but the spread is too risky.
