Beyond that these teams don’t have a lot to brag about other than the fact that Boston College played Florida State about as well as anyone else did this season while the Wildcats had a surprising upset of Oregon.

Arizona

The Wildcats were hoping to catch the nation by surprise this season but it was more of the same in the desert, with the exception of that win against the Ducks.

Since coach Rich Rodriguez has come to town Arizona has been a strong running team. Carey led the nation last year in rushing and would have finished higher than 5th this season if he had played a full slate of games.

Amazingly he did not have a single game below 119 yards all season, contributing to the Wildcats ranking 11th in the nation running the ball.

Also contributing was senior QB B.J. Denker, an underrated run-pass threat. Denker had almost 900 yards on the ground and scored 12 touchdowns but he is not a great thrower making this team built to play with the lead.

To do that they are going to need a strong performance from a defense that has let them down often throughout the year.

Especially important will be stopping the run, where they are only 71st in the nation. If they can’t they are in real trouble.

Boston College

Boston College is not a great team but when this number came out I was really surprised as I think the oddsmakers are putting too much stock in Arizona’s win over Oregon as they had lost to Washington State at home the week prior.

Boston College is a physical team and Williams is the most punishing runner in college football. Though they do not have a signature win this team beat the teams it was supposed to and all of their losses save FSU were on the road.

QB Chase Rettig did not have a strong senior season in terms of yards but his completion percentage and yards per attempt were up over last year when they needed him to put the ball up more often. This year they just needed him to hand off and not make mistakes and he performed that role pretty admirably.

He can certainly do it for another game, which will be his last at BC, and lead his team to an upset.

This is one of my favourite lines of the entire bowl season.

Spread Pick: Boston College +7.5
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Boston College 24 – Arizona 20
