Texas A+M Aggies vs. Iowa St. Cyclones Week 8 Free Pick

Texas A+M vs Iowa St. Free Prediction

Texas A&M (4-2) has gotten over 2 close losses, which likely cost them a chance at a BCS bowl game, but they are back on track with 2 solid wins in a row, especially beating a ranked Baylor team last week.

No. 17 Texas A&M Aggies vs. Iowa State Cyclones Preview

Iowa State (3-3) is reeling with 3 straight losses and in their last 2 losses they have given up and average of 51.5 points per game. NCAAF lines have Texas A&M as big 20.5-point away favorites with a total of 66.

In their last games Texas A&M beat Baylor 55-28 while Iowa State was crushed by Missouri 52-17.

The Aggies are 4-0 against the Cyclones in Iowa State since the Big 12 began in 1996 and overall have beaten them 7 of 8 times.

Iowa State has the nation’s 115th ranked defense out of 120 FBS teams and that is not good facing a Texas A&M team that ranks 7th in the nation with 524.7 yards per game and is averaging 41.7 points per game.

The Cyclones have really struggled to defend the run lately, as in their last 2 games they have given up an average of 344.5 yards per game and the A&M RB duo of Christine Michael and Cyrus Gray have combined for almost 1,100 yards this season and each has 7 rushing TD. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Aggies’ QB Ryan Tannehill passed for 415 yards and had 6 TD in the win over Baylor and he has a solid WR corps, especially Ryan Swope, who is averaging over 15 yards per catch this season. Iowa State has struggled to defend the run and the pass in their 3-game losing streak and if they struggle on D like they have recently they will get blown out yet again.

While Texas A&M has one of the best run defenses in the nation, ranking 5th, their pass defense ranks dead last in the nation. Because of that for the Cyclones to win and pull off the home upset they may need a great game from whoever plays QB, as head coach Paul Rhoads has not tabbed a starter. Still, the starter will have to get protection facing a Texas A&M pass rush that leads the nation with 26 sacks.

QB Steele Jantz has been the starter this season for the Cyclones, but he was yanked in the Missouri loss and he was replaced by freshman Jared Barnett.

The RB duo of James White (384 yards 5 TD) and Shontrelle Johnson (247 yards) has a tall task running the ball against a great Aggies’ run defense, but if they can do that they have a chance to win, albeit a small one.

Betting Trends

Both of these Big 12 teams are 2-4 ATS and each has an O/U record of 4-2.
Texas A&M is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite, and has an Over record of 7-1 in their last 8 games as a road favorite.
Iowa State is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall, and has an Under record of 11-5 in their last 16 home games.

Jason’s Pick: OK, so the Aggies have not been the best ATS team on the road or when they are the favorite, but there is no way the Cyclones will keep them from scoring a ton of points. Take Texas A&M to win and cover and take the Over as well.

Jason’s Pick: While I do not think Oklahoma will have a tough time winning this game Tech will score points and cover the big 29-point spread. Take the Red Raiders to cover and take the Over as well, as this game will be a barnburner.
