ATS Matchup Stats | Gambling Insight!

In the 2nd round of the South Region 14th seed Western Michigan faces 3rd seed Syracuse. This is a match up of a couple of teams heading in different directions, as the Broncos ended the season red-hot and won their conference tournament while Syracuse really struggled at the end of the season and lost in the first round of their conference tourney.

The Broncos have won 4 straight and 12 of their last 13 games so they come into this game as the heavy underdog, but a confident bunch. On the other side of the coin the Orange lost 5 of their last 7 games of the season, which cost them a #1 seed in the Big Dance.

Syracuse has to lean on their defense to win, as they only rank 253rd in the nation in points per game. The Orange have the league’s 9th ranked defense only giving up an average of 59.5 ppg.

The Orange may have to win a low scoring affair, as their offense has been struggling. In their last 3 losses they have failed to score over 63 points.

The Broncos lost their only game this season facing a top 25 team.
[ad-6571516]
Cuse leading scorer FW C.J. Fair (16.7 ppg) really struggled in the upset loss to NC State only going for 9 points on 3/16 shooting. However, 2nd leading scorer G Tyler Ennis (12.7 ppg) has been playing well and if these guys are on they are one of the bets FW/G duos in the nation.

Broncos leading scorer David Brown (19.4 ppg) us coming off a 32 point performance in the conference title game and 2nd leading scorer and leading rebounder 6’11” C Shayne Whittington (16.3 ppg 90.1 rpg) has been on a tear lately. In his last 5 games he is averaging 19.6 ppg and has grabbed 13 boards in each of his last 2 games.

The Orange do not have lot of size inside and Whittington may give them a headache in this game in the paint.

Betting Trends

Western Michigan is 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall, 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, and they have an Over record of 5-2 in their last 7 neutral site games.

Syracuse is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games, 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall, and in their last 4 games they have an Over record of 4-0.

Jason’s Pick:

I think Cuse will win this game, but WMU will give them a scare and they will cover the big 13-point spread.
