Siena vs Purdue Odds
Purdue is the favourite at -5 (-110)
Siena +5 (-110)
Over/Under: 130
MoneyLine: Siena +150, Purdue -170

This first round matchup will be played in Spokane, WA at 2:30 on Friday.

There is no recent history between these two opponents.

Purdue has been forced to rediscover that life without Robbie Hummel is pretty bleak.

Despite the killer record which included an amazing performance against West Virginia on New Years Day this team grabbbed only a four seed as the selection commitee questioned whether this team was still elite calibre without the versatile forward. The problem for Purdue is that nobody has stepped up….at least not yet.

E’Twaun Moore is the kind of electric scorer who can carry a team but he needs to do it smartly. He was a horrific 1/14 against Minnesota in what was a dreadful peformance by the entire team.

Without Hummel this is not a Final Four calibre squad but could they really lose in the first round…Maybe

That maybe is in part due to the fact they the could not have drawn a tougher opening round opponent on the 14 line than Siena.

Siena has a history of slaying giants and they have an experienced squad that won’t back down. In their mind they are not a small conference team and that attitude has served them well. Also serving them well is an athletic unit with balanced scoring (4 players average between 13 and 17 points per game).

The biggest challenge they will have will be containig JaJuan Johnson.

Even though Johnson sometimes does a pretty good job of that himself that job will fall to Ryan Rossiter who comes into the game averaging a double double and continues to improve. Siena will give the Boilermakers all they can handle and them some.

Betting Trends:

Saints are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 NCAA Tournament games as an underdog
Saints are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 NCAA Tournament games
Boilermakers are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss
Boilermakers are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600

Free Boilermakers vs. Saints CBB Pick

I hate being trendy but I think the Saints are the smart pick here. Purdue has looked shaken since Hummel got hurt and the Saints have the talent, experience and composure to beat them or at the very least keep it close. They dont call it March Madness for nothing so lets go with the outright upset.

Score prediction: Siena 70 – Purdue 66.

One reply on “Boilermakers vs. Saints | Free Pick (Mar 19 )”

College basketball betting players have lost their faith in Purdue ever since they lost Robbie Hummel to a torn ACL, as they haven’t look anything like the team some were picking as a darkhorse to win it all. The Boilermakers will have their hands full against Siena on Friday afternoon, and the Saints are well versed in the art of the first-round upset.

The Saints are headed to the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row after winning the MAAC tournament, and Siena is an experienced squad with balanced scoring, although they’re not as deep as they’d like to be. The Saints are led by Alex Franklin, the MAAC Player of the Year, and he forms a very good forward tandem with Ryan Rossiter, who has had a double-double in 10 of his last 11 games. Defensively, the Saints are 16th in the country in steals, but first in fouls, meaning they can pressure the ball aggressively without putting the other team on the line. Many who were looking at the March Madness Round 1 odds were thinking that Siena, when they were drawn with Purdue, could possibly be a favorite as the 13th seed in the South region, and they’ve pulled off upsets in the first round in each of the past two years. In 2008, the Saints sent Vanderbilt packing, and then last year, Purdue’s Big Ten rival Ohio State fell to Siena.

The Boilermakers were thumped by Minnesota in the Big Ten semifinals, scoring only 11 points in the first half, and they miss Hummel badly on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he created space for JuJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore as their best three-pointer shooter, and defensively, he often guarded the other team’s best forward. Keaton Grant and Chris Kramer are going to have step up their game for the Boilermakers, who take good care of the ball, but they may need to push the ball a bit more in this contest.

US sportsbook odds (US sportsbook review) have the Boilermakers as a 4-point favorite in Spokane, and this isn’t a good draw for the Boilermakers at all, not with the way they’re playing. The Saints have dropped all of their non-conference games against the likes of Temple, St. John’s and Georgia Tech, but they’ve got a wave of confidence after winning their conference. The Boilermakers are reeling and more than Hummel’s skill, they miss his leadership. They’ve always struggled when their oft-injured star is out of the lineup, and they’ve never shown any poise. Even though it’s a trendy pick, it’s also a smart one.

March Madness betting pick: Siena +4
