Team records:
Siena: 22-5 SU
Butler: 24-4 SU
The No. 18 Butler Bulldogs will look to increase their home-unbeaten streak to 13-0 when they face off for the first time against the Siena Saints in a non-conference game on Saturday at Hinkle Field House in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Siena is not a team one hears about often, but is currently atop the MAAC with a 15-1 conference record. The Saints clinched the regular-season title after defeating Canisius 74-57 on Sunday. The win comes after a loss to Niagara on Feb 12 that broke Siena’s 15-game unbeaten streak. Senior forward Alex Franklin scored 26 points and Ryan Rossiter had 15 points and 17 rebounds in the win. The Saints shot 54.4 percent (31 of 57) from the field as they completed a season sweep of the Golden Griffins.
The Bulldogs cruised to a 73-55 victory over Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday night on their way to setting a school-record 16th consecutive win. Matt Howard, reigning conference player of the year, scored 17 points and Ronald Nored added a career-high 16 points in the win. Howard is the Dogs third leading scorer, netting 11.8 ppg.
Butler held the Flames to a mere 31.4 percent shooting from the field—a season-best for the Bulldogs. Gordon Hayward continues to lead Butler in scoring with 16.0 ppg, while pulling down 8.3 rpg. Shelvin Mack contributes 13.7 ppg to go along with his 8th best in the conference, 90 assists.
The Bulldogs have already clinched their fourth straight regular-season conference crown and home-court advantage in the Horizon League tourney, but will now focus on their bid for a top NCAA Tournament seeding.
The BracketBusters game against Butler provides another chance for Siena to bust onto the national stage.
That makes this one a must win. Butler’s only four losses have been to teams that have been ranked at some point this season: Georgetown, Clemson, UAB and Minnesota.

This is a great match up between two very good Mid Major teams. Butler has been white hot winning 16 in a row and I like their streak to continue
it’s hard for me to take your story seriously when you can’t even spell the team’s name right. Sienna is a mini-van. Siena is the mid-major basketball team that has a habit of pulling upsets in March.
Simple typo…thanks for the catch.
James-
Losing by 17 doesn’t sound like SIENA is on there way to any upsets anytime soon. : )
