The Wisconsin Badgers are off one of the biggest wins in school history, and now they must travel to face the 11th ranked Purdue Boilermakers. This should be a good old-fashioned Big Ten battle between the #10 ranked Badgers and the Boilers. Can Wisconsin keep their momentum rolling or will Purdue step up and pick up a huge home win?
Every year Wisconsin is near the top of the Big Ten, and for some reason it seems some people are still surprised. This is a well-coached basketball team that takes great care of the basketball and plays solid defense. They force you to play at their tempo, which is the slowest in all of college basketball.
Jordan Taylor is a very underrated point guard, who quite simply willed his team to the huge victory over Ohio State last Saturday. Taylor runs the offense well and he is a terrific shooter. Jon Leuer is a 6’10 forward who can post up, or beat you from the outside. Wisconsin allows just 56.7 points per game this year, which is second in the nation.
Another interesting fact about Wisconsin is their ability to hit free throws. Wisconsin shoots 82.4% from the line, which helps them salt away games very well.
Purdue has two stars in JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore. Johnson is a skilled big man who can shoot it from anywhere on the floor, and he is a nice defender in the low-post as well. Moore is the type of guy who can create his own shot and take over a game. The issue for Purdue has been that they haven’t had a consistent third scorer to help out Johnson and Moore.
Ryne Smith has boosted the team at times, and they need him to stretch the defense with his sharpshooting ability.
When this team is at their best they are playing terrific defense. Purdue is 13-0 at home this year, and they have allowed just 57.6 points per game on their home floor.
