The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be looking to close-out their regular season with a win when they take on the Connecticut Huskies this Saturday afternoon in this Big East Showdown. Tip-off from Mansfield is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Notre Dame still has an outside chance to claim a share of the Big East regular season title with a win in this game coupled with a Pittsburgh loss to Villanova. The Irish knocked-off the No.19 Wildcats 93-72 this past Monday as a five-point home favorite to run their record to 24-5 straight-up overall (14-10 against the spread) and 13-4 SU in conference play.
Ben Hansbrough and Tim Abromaitis have accounted for a good chunk of Notre Dame’s offensive production this season. Hansbrough leads the team with 18.4 points and four assists a game, while Abromaitis is second in scoring with 15.4 points and is averaging 6.2 rebounds a game. The Irish averaging 76 points and 37 rebounds a game. They are shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 72.6 percent from the foul-line.
Connecticut has struggled down the stretch with three losses in its last four games including a 65-56 loss to West Virginia as a five-point road underdog this past Wednesday. The Huskies are currently 21-8 SU and 13-10 against the spread. They are tied for eighth-place in the Big East standings with a record of 9-8 SU.
Kemba Walker continues to put up some big numbers with an average of 22.8 points a game. He is also averaging 5.1 rebounds and a team-high 4.4 assists per game. Connecticut is shooting 42.7 percent from the field and averaging 73 points a game. The Huskies are ranked ninth in the nation in rebounds with 40 a game.
The Irish won the first meeting between these two 73-70 as a four-point home favorite, but stick with the Huskies this time around to come out on top in a game they desperately need to win.
