Georgia

The Colorado Buffaloes boast the more impressive record, but it’s Georgia that brings in the most momentum. Colorado is coming off of a five-point loss to the No. 7 Oklahoma State Cowboys, while Georgia has won five straight. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, strength of schedule lies in Colorado’s corner, giving them a competitive advantage.

Thus far, Georgia has yet to play a ranked opponent. Colorado, on the other hand, has already played three, including a three-point win over the Kansas Jayhawks. This will be the biggest contest of the year for the Bulldogs, and it could result in a statement win before beginning conference play.

From a historical standpoint, Georgia has the advantage in this matchup. It has faced off against Colorado eight times, with the Bulldogs owning the season six wins to two. The team has never lost to the Buffaloes in its home arena, and it is 2-2 away.

The last time these two played was 2011, with Colorado coming out on top by two. The Bulldogs are a much improved offensive team this season, as they’re averaging 73.6 points per game.

Colorado

Despite losing a close game to the Oklahoma State Cowboys most recently, you can’t ignore what Colorado has done this season. The Buffaloes are No. 21 in the country, and they had completed a 10-game winning streak before losing to OSU on Dec. 21.

This team should be extremely competitive in the Pac-12, and Georgia will be its final opponent before beginning conference play against the Oregon State Beavers and undefeated Oregon Ducks.

The Buffaloes are led by junior Spencer Dinwiddie and sophomore John Scott. Dinwiddie is the leading scorer with a points-per-game average of 15.7, while Scott is right behind him at 13. Scott, while being a decent scoring presence, is the team’s leader in rebounding by a relative long shot. He’s a threat for a double-double against a Georgia team has shown struggles rebounding, as he’s pulling down 8.9 per contest.

Following a close loss, I would expect the Buffaloes to come out aggressive. Their talented backcourt will push the tempo, their solid frontcourt will challenge inside and their winning ways will return once more. Georgia won’t go away easy, but Colorado should be the one pulling away late.

Prediction: Colorado 77 – Georgia 69
