NCAA basketball betting players were thrown for a loop last year in the Mountain West Conference as BYU, New Mexico and Utah all took a piece of the regular-season championship, but Utah took the tournament and a No.5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Who will be there this year?

BYU Cougars

The Cougars earned a share of their fifth MWC title since 2001 last year, but their third straight loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament has to sting. BYU lost leading scorer Lee Cummard, but besides that, most of last year’s roster is back, including Jimmer Fredette, who many are predicting to be the NCAA basketball betting favorite for Player of the Year. All eyes will also be on freshman Tyler Hawes, who is expected to contribute immediately.

San Diego State Aztecs

The Aztecs set a school record with 26 wins last year en route to the semifinals of the NIT, and this year, an NCAA Tournament berth is the goal. They’ll have to replace a lot of experience as four seniors that left were among their top six scorers, which means Billy White and Tim Shelton will be asked to step up. But SDSU has one of the top recruiting classes coming to campus, led by Kawhi Leonard. They also have a couple of acclaimed transfers from Illinois and Pepperdine. However, the sportsbook betting lines may be stacked against the Aztecs due to their inexperience.

UNLV Runnin’ Rebels

The Rebels surely aren’t the NCAA basketball betting juggernauts they were in the 1980s and early ‘90s, but they’re still in the hunt to win the MWC. Replacing Wink Adams won’t be easy, and the onus is on Tre’Von Willis to step up. The Rebels also have Derrick Jasper and Chance Stanback, two four-star transfers from the likes of Kentucky and UCLA.internet sports betting odds and win it again.Sports Betting at the Sportsbook If these guys can get it together quickly and UNLV can get off to a good start under coach Lon Kruger, check them out as a sportsbook darkhorse.

New Mexico Lobos

The Lobos lost their top three scorers from a team that went to the NIT and won a share of the regular-season crown, but Steve Alford is a good coach who should have this program in the Big Dance very soon. Roman Martinez and Dairese Gary are two of just three players who are at least in their junior year, and their lack of experience will probably hurt them this year. Next year, though, watch out.

Utah Utes

The Utes returned to the NCAA Tournament by winning the MWC tourney and a share of the regular-season title, and there are three starters back from last year, including Carlon Brown and Luka Drca. Kim Tillie will try to fill the void left by Luke Neill, and then there is the frosh duo of Jason Washburn and Marshall Henderson. This team also has a good coach in Jim Boylan, and should be enough to keep them in contention on the sports betting front.

2009 MWC Pick

Experience, experience, and more experience: that’s what will earn BYU the MWC crown this year. Not only do they have it in spades, their competition, particularly San Diego State and New Mexico, have lost a lot of it. UNLV may make a push due to the coaching of Kruger, but go with the BYU Cougars in your internet betting picks this year.
