Michigan

Now there is no shame in losing against the Badgers but this team just looks so good and so complete some nights you just want to punch their ticket for the Final Four.

Then they look just average when they can’t play the kind of game they want.

Something the Spartans are pretty good at doing to opponents.

Against OSU Tim Hardway Jr. was sublime, making shot after shot as Trey Burke was stifled by nemesis Aaron Craft.  Burke also struggled against Wisconsin but still managed to hoist up 21 shots.

The book may be out on him to play him as physical as possible and he is going to have to do a better job of letting the game come to him.  Especially because the talent around him is so very good.

Michigan has lost two of their last three SU and all three ATS.  Despite their recent struggles against top teams they are the slight favourite in this one, which kind of makes me like them less.

This is a good team but one that I think plays better when they are doubted a little bit.  They aren’t great frontrunners.

Michigan State

Michigan State is tied with Indiana at the top of the conference standings with a chance to get a leg up on Michigan at home Tuesday night.  [ad-6571516]

They will play the Wolverines again in Ann Arbor in a couple of weeks, in fact five of their final seven conference games are against teams ranked in the top 20.

To say the Big Ten is tough this season is an understatement.  MSU is right there despite playing less than pretty basketball.

I don’t always like to watch but it is hard not to be impressed with the results that coach Tom Izzo is getting this year.  I keep writing that this may be his least talented team in a while but they keep winning by playing solid defense and making those winning plays at the end of the games.

They haven’t lost at home all season long and their loss at Miami in the nonconference doesn’t look nearly as bad as it did at the time.  They are tough to beat.

The Spartans will not wilt but their style doesn’t inspire much confidence.  Neither does their 4-6-1 ATS record at home this season.  They will play hard but I think they are going to come up short.

Their offense just doesn’t require the same attention as the Wolverines and even though they will disrupt Big Blue I don’t think it will be enough.
