Iowa (10-1) has reeled off three straight wins after on overtime loss to Villanova back on Nov. 30, snapped its seven-game win streak to start the 2013 campaign.

Four Hawkeyes scored in double figures in their last bout against Fairleigh Dickinson, including Melsahn Basabe, who finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds as the host Hawkeyes rolled to a 92-59 victory to continue their best start since 2004.

Gabriel Olaseni and Jarrod Uthoff each posted their second career double-double and Zach McCabe added 10 points, as Iowa outrebounded the Knights 54-32.

After a slow start in the first two frames, the Hawkeyes held Fairleigh Dickinson to one field goal over the first seven minutes of the second half and pulled away, leading by as many as 35.

Defensively, Iowa held the Knights to 32.3 percent from the floor, their ninth opponent to shoot under 40 percent.

Meanwhile, the Cyclones (7-0) remained unbeaten after rallying from an 18-point second-half deficit to beat Northern Iowa in overtime, 91-82 last Saturday.

Melvin Ejim scored 22 points, including a two key three-pointers late in overtime to notch the win for Iowa State and move them up two spots in the rankings.

Georges Niang added 22 points, DeAndre Kane had 18 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and three steals, while Dustin Hogue chipped in with 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Panthers took control of the game in the first half, holding Iowa State to 29 first-half points — a season low for the Cyclones. However, the Iowa State fought back, and exploded for a 23-2 run in the final stanza to set the stage for an exciting overtime finish.

Iowa State was 22-of-33 from line and outrebounded Northern Iowa 43-39.

The Cyclones finished the game shooting 45 percent and just 33.3 percent from three-point range. A place they have struggled.
Free Pick: Iowa – The Cyclone are 5-0 at home, and 3-1 against the Hawkeyes over the last four years, averaging a margin of victory of eight points in 16 wins since 1980. However, they fell 80-71 on Dec. 7, 2012, the last time the two in state rivals met.

And while Iowa State is a better three-point shooting team (37.4 percent vs. 30.5 percent) than Iowa this season, the Hawkeyes rank fourth in the nation for points scored, averaging 91.7 PPG.

Two key areas of strength for Iowa in this one is its offensive rebounding percentage at 40, which ranks second in their conference and 19th nationally, and the amount of turnovers it gives up.

In their last contest the Hawkeyes finished with eight turnovers, the fourth time in the last eight games they have committed eight or fewer.

If Iowa can take that kind of care of the ball in this one, I expect them to snatch the win by at least 12 points.
