The two teams have gotten here in very different ways. Kansas has had multiple comeback victories, while Kentucky has dominated everyone in sight. Let’s take a closer look at this final matchup.

Bill Self has been known as a great coach for the last few years, but this season has probably been his best coaching job yet. Thomas Robinson is the clear leader for the Jayhawks.

Robinson has been as consistent as anyone in college basketball this year. He has scored nine points or more in every game, and he has yet to have a game where he finished with less than seven rebounds.

He’ll have to be remarkable in this one. Tyshawn Taylor is a very talented point guard who sometimes makes bad decisions with the basketball. Taylor hasn’t had his shot in the tournament, but he was clutch against Ohio State Saturday night. Elijah Johnson is a critical part of this team’s success as well, and he excels on both ends of the floor.

Jeff Withey is a defensive force, and he had seven blocks Saturday night. Kansas allows opponents to shoot only 37.9% percent from the floor. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Kentucky Wildcats were the top overall seed in the tournament, and this team is one of the best in recent memory in college basketball. There really is no weakness on this team, and every starter for the Wildcats is likely to be an NBA star in the future. Anthony Davis was the Player of the Year this year, and he is clearly the super star on this squad.

Davis leads the nation in blocked shots, and he is becoming a force on the offensive end as well.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had a rare off night Saturday, but he has been playing great down the stretch. Terrence Jones is a versatile forward who can light it up at any time. Doron Lamb shoots 47% from beyond the arc. Marquis Teague has matured a great deal throughout the season.

Though their offense is tremendous, it is the defense of the Wildcats that makes them such a dominant team. They lead the nation in field goal percentage defense at 37.4%.

Both games Saturday in the Superdome stayed under the posted total. These are the top two defenses in the nation. Expect a real battle in this one. I think the value is on the under in the 2012 NCAA Basketball Championship.
