The Salukis have a tough task ahead of them as it looks like the Shockers are finally getting into their groove on both ends of the floor.

Southern Illinois

Losers of 6 in a row, the Salukis need an almost, if not, flawless performance when they invade Wichita on Wednesday. After starting off the season 7-4, the Salukis limped into conference play. Their struggles showed as they’ve dropped 4 straight to start their conference season, including blowouts to Bradley and Northern Iowa.

Their offensive struggles were showcased in their matchup with Northern Iowa as they scored a season low 39 points in the loss. Overall, the Salukis are scoring just 60.5 points per contest. In their 17 games, they’ve shot an average of 42 percent from the field.

Southern Illinois continued their string of bad luck as they saw Indiana State drill a 3 point shot with just 2 seconds left last time out. The Salukis blew a 14 point 2nd half lead in the game.

The main problem, especially as of late, as been the lack of depth. Leading the way for Southern Illinois is G Anthony Beane. Beane is averaging 16.5 points a game for the Salukis. He’s been the only consistent scorer for Southern Illinois this season. If they have any chance of upsetting Wichita State on Wednesday, they’ll need somebody to step up along with Beane.

Wichita State

The Shockers went through a stretch where they made a living at making games close. After leading Bradley by only one point at home 2 games ago, the Shockers outscored Bradley 36-15 in the 2nd half. Following up that impressive half, the Shockers dominated Loyola (IL) en route to a 14 point win.

Things just seemed to click in that 2nd half against Bradley and Wichita State is hoping that was a turning point for this season. Ron Baker hit back-to-back 3s in that spectacular half and that could have been just what he needed to get himself going.

Baker is scoring 16.5 points per contest. After a struggling stretch, he scored 15 points in the win over Loyola. Doing the damage with Baker is F Darius Carter. Carter played a crucial role in that 2nd half against Bradley and finished that contest with 19 points. Even though he scored just 8 points against Loyola, he grabbed 8 rebounds in the win. Carter is averaging 11.8 points on the season.

Wichita State is just 3-3 ATS in true home games this season.

NCAA Basketball Trends:

  • Salukis are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • Salukis are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games.
  • Shockers are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 vs. Missouri Valley.
  • Shockers are 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 Wednesday games.

Free 4* NCAA Basketball Pick: Southern Illinois +19

This has the potential to be a trap game for Wichita State. They’re playing extremely well as of late, but have a big match up with Evansville in their next game.

Wichita State 75, Southern Illinois 65

The Salukis are in desperate need of a conference win and while they most likely won’t get it on Wednesday, they should be within striking distance throughout.
