Notre Dame will look to use their experience to neutralize one of the best frosh classes in the country.

Duke

After a two game blip the Blue Devils look like they have righted the ship, netting Coach K his 1000th victory over the weekend at Madison Square Garden.

They were down in that one but stormed back in impressive fashion on the road.

After those earlier losses the threat level went to DEFCON 4 but now it seems like the Blue Devils are once again a contender and probably the best threat to Virginia’s perfect record.

The Blue Devils better not be looking too far ahead though because the Irish will be looking for a scalp.

Jahlil Okafor gets a lot of press and deservedly so but if you watched the game against St. John’s it was plain to see that the guards of Duke, Tyus Jones and Quinn Cook, will be critical to their ultimate goals.

Those guys can be money down the stretch, making shots and more importantly making the right plays in the right moments.

Cook, a senior, is going to be especially crucial as the games get larger.

Notre Dame

There are some teams near the top of the rankings that I am still not sure about and Notre Dame is at the top of that list.

There is no disputing their current record or overall achievements but I wonder if they are going to be able to maintain that level of success over the course of ACC play as there are just not that many easy marks in that league any more.

This team can score but I don’t like the fact that when it comes to defense and rebounding these guys don’t put in maximum effort.

Jerian Grant is good enough to dominate any game, against any team, but I think it is fair to say that his performance has been spotty this season.

When they do compete in the playoffs I like their chances because they are very solid on the perimeter and have a difference maker in Grant that can make the plays.

This team can close out games because they play smart and can make their free throws.

They are kind of like Duke like that but more experienced though likely less talented.

NCAAB Handicapping Trends:

  • ND are 6-18-2 ATS in their last 26 home games.
  • Over is 9-3 in ND last 12 overall.

4* NCAAB Prediction:  Duke -1.5

This should be a good game. I think in the end the home team will come up short.

NCAAB Score prediction:  Duke 78 – Notre Dame 72

Duke is really good at getting what they need when they need it and can close out games.
