The Cougars are stumbling into the tournament which is not good considering they have lost 8 straight opening round games. Florida is a good matchup for them. They are more athletic but not nearly as efficient as BYU so if the Cougars can get their offense rolling this game has blowout potential.
BYU’s biggest advantage is Jimmer Fredette at the point. He is their leading scorer and his leadership will stand in stark contrast to a Florida team that seems like playing more like a streetball pickup squad.
This will be one of those system vs. talent games and it could be a good one.
In my opinion the Gators are lucky to be in the tournament. They have some talented players but they are grossly inconsistent which shouldn’t be a surprise when your best player is a freshman. Kenny Boynton is a nice player but is hardly a one and done player in my books.
He can be erratic which is part of the reason that Florida has turned to Chandler Parsons to run the point.
At 6’9″ he is a good decision maker and can see the floor. Most importantly he is willing to give up the rock which is something that Boynton and the diminutive Erving Walker struggle with.
The X factor is centre Vernon Macklin.
When he plays well he is a double-double threat but he is coming off a 3 point performance in the SEC tournament loss to Mississippi State.
