Records:
BYU: 20-1 SU, 11-7 ATS
New Mexico: 18-3 SU, 13-7 ATS

The No. 20 BYU Cougars will travel to Albuquerque to do battle against the No. 23 New Mexico Lobos at University Arena on Wednesday evening.

The two teams last met on Feb 17, 2009, when the Lobos fell to the Cougars 73-62 tying them for second place in the Mountain West Conference.

BYU extended their wining steak to 15 reaching 20 wins for the fifth straight season with a 71-69 win over San Diego State on Saturday night. The Mountain West’s leading scorer with a 19.4 ppg, junior guard Jimmer Fredette scored 33 points in the win. Fredette who has been battling strep throat and mononucleosis played just 38 minutes in the contest. The victory allowed BYU to maintain firm control of the Mountain West Conference race BYU leads the Mountain West in field-goal percentage (50.7) and in field-goal percentage defense (39.0).

The Cougars are outscoring opponents by an average of 20.7 points per game.

Meanwhile the Lobos will are coming off their fourth straight conference win as junior guard Dairese Gary scored 17 points to lead New Mexico to an 82-64 victory over Colorado State on Saturday.

The Lobos had four players in double figures. Gary hit all 10 of his free-throw attempts and had five assists. New Mexico controlled the boards with a 48-30 advantage. The Lobos will anticipate a comeback from leading scorer Darington Hobson who totaled just 14 points in victories over Air Force and Colorado State last week.

New Mexico needs Hobson to get back in to form for Wednesday’s match up against the red hot Cougars.

It’s really difficult to find any fault with a team that has won 15 consecutive games and is 18-1 on the season. The Cougars are outscoring their opponents by an average of 20 points per game, and are shooting above 50 percent while holding opponents to just 39 percent shooting. The biggest challenge for New Mexico will be shutting down point guard Jimmer Fredette and the rest of the BYU scoring machine
