Team records:
George Washington: 16-13 SU, 12-12 ATS
Dayton: 19-11 SU, 14-13 ATS

The Dayton Flyers will host the George Washington Colonials in first-round action of the 34th annual Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament tonight at the University of Dayton Arena, in Dayton, Ohio.

The last time these two teams met was back on Jan 20. The Flyers beat the Colonials at Dayton 66-51. GWU has lost the past two meetings, despite leading the all-time series 14-11. The winner of tonight’s battle will head to Atlantic City to face second- seeded Xavier in the quarterfinals on Friday night.

The Flyers are winners of all but two of their 16 regular season home dates, but lost four of the last five including a 71-66 defeat to Saint Louis, dropping them to an even 8-8 in conference and a seventh seed in this year’s tourney. Dayton started this year’s campaign on an eight-game win streak, but most of those victories came by way of a weak non-conference schedule, with the exception of a 58-50 win over CAA Tournament winner Old Dominion. Junior forward Chris Wright who paces the team with 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game leads the Flyers.

Chris Johnson follows him closely with his 11.8 ppg and 7.0 rpg, and the duo made up one of the stronger rebounding pairs in the A-10 this season. Because of them the Flyers crushed opponents on the glass by an average of almost seven boards per contest.

As for the Colonials, Atlantic 10 Conference champions in 2007, they are the 10th seed after they too lost the last two games of the season, including a 70-57 home defeat to No. 17 and A10 conference leader Temple on Saturday. Joseph Katuka scored 13 points and Lasan Kromah had 12 in the loss. Kromah along with leading scorer Damion Hollis (13.1ppg) both earned all-conference recognition this season.

The Colonials have played mediocre at both ends of the floor, but have managed to put forth a solid effort in the paint, and is beating opponents by more than four rebounds per game this season.
