Ohio State: 14-5 SU, 10-9 ATS
West Virginia: 14-3 SU, 6-10 ATS

The No. 21 Ohio State Buckeyes hit the road to take on the No. 11 Mountaineers in a non-conference match up at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, WV on Saturday evening.

The Mountaineers thumped the Buckeyes 76-48 the last time the two teams met on Dec 27, 2008, and have won six out of the last eight meetings.

Senior forward Da’Sean Butler scored 16 points and went 6 of 8 from the charity stripe in the closing seconds to help preserve a 68-60 win over rival Marshall in the Capital Classic on Wednesday night. Darryl Bryant added 14 points for West Virginia and Kevin Jones scored 13. Six-foot-seven forward John Flowers scored only five points and had four blocks, three of them against the nation’s top shot blocker, Hassan Whiteside. The Mountaineers struggled, shooting just 39 percent from the field. It was the sixth straight game they’ve shot below 50 percent. However, a 43-26 rebounding advantage kept them in the game and eventually gave them the win. All three of the Mountaineers losses are by two and one point.

WVU has already lost to Big 10 Purdue, and will not want to have two out-of-conference losses heading into February.

After missing over a month with a back injury, Ohio’s Evan Turner put up 20 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists to help lift his team to solid 76-56 win over Northwestern on Tuesday night. It’s the Buckeyes third consecutive win since losing to Minnesota on Jan 9. Dallas Lauderdale contributed a career-high 14 points in a win that saw the Buckeyes shoot a whopping 56 percent from the field. Ohio started the season by winning seven of eight and moved up to the top 15 in the polls.

Then they began the Big Ten season with a 1-3 record, but have turned things around since the return of star swingman Evan Turner, with wins against two ranked teams—Purdue and Wisconsin.

Foul trouble has plagued WVU and it will be critical to their success against Ohio to keep their big guns out of foul trouble early on. Both teams are in the top 25, and Ohio State is playing its best basketball since early in the season. They have struggled on the road going 1-4, so this will be a big test for the Buckeyes.
