The Wildcats will look to thwart the Rebels hopes of posting their first win over a ranked team this season when the two square off on Tuesday night for just the sixth time since 1980.
The Rebels hold a 3-2 edge over the ‘Cats for the series, but Kansas State won last year’s contest by huge 95-80 margin.
Jacob Pullen hit seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points while finishing 7-of-10 from beyond the arc and 10-of-16 from the field, as the Wildcats built their lead to 88-65 with about 6 minutes left.
It was the first time the two teams met since the 1987 NCAA tournament, when the Wildcats lost to the Rebels 80-78 in the second round.
Now Pullen will try to get his team back on the rails after their five-game win streak was snapped with a 57-44 loss to Florida last Saturday.
Pullen led the Wildcats for the ninth time this season with 19 points, but shot only 6 for 17 as the rest of the starting lineup went 3 for 18. The shooting went ice cold as the ‘Cats missed 19 of 20 at one point, making just one basket during a span of 18 minutes midway through the game, as Florida rallied to take a 36-27 lead.
It was the Wildcats’ lowest scoring total since a 57-42 loss to Nebraska in 2006. 
Meanwhile, the Rebs blasted Southern Utah as Anthony Marshall helped UNLV right the ship after two tough losses, scoring a career high 17 points in a 72-50 rout Saturday night.
Freshman forward Carlos Lopez had season-highs of 12 points and 11 rebounds for UNLV who never trailed, despite shooting three of 16 from 3-point range.
When you look at the key differences between UNLV and Kansas State, the Wildcats comes out just two places ahead. While the Rebs hold a slight advantage in field goal percentage and 3-point percentage, the Wildcats have the advantage in blocked shots, and are also better at rebounding, 41 per game to 35 per game. However, UNLV is better at turnovers, where they lead the ‘Cats with only 13 per game to 15 per game.
I expect his is going to be a very difficult challenge for the Wildcats as UNLV has been relentless on both ends of the court, rotating in a bunch of players and constantly putting pressure on the other team. That isn’t exactly what the Wildcats need to break out of the recent slump they are in.
Although the Kansas State is favored in this game, I really like the Rebels chances of pulling off the upset, which makes them a great play against the spread.
