Connecticut proved to be too much for the Longhorns their last time out and now their reputation will be on the line as they try to jump back on the rails against Texas Tech on Tuesday.

Jordan Hamilton and J`Covan Brown led all scoring for the Longhorns, each with 20 points. Hamilton recorded his fourth double double this season and fifth of his career while setting a career high with 11 rebounds. He has led the team in rebounding in six out of 15 games this season.

Likewise, after the Delaware State win, the Red Raiders will be seeking its third win in its last four after being routed in their Big 12 home opener by Baylor, 71-59 on Saturday.

While Tech weren’t the favorites in this game but it wasn’t expected to be so big a loss. Last year, Texas Tech was 0-2 against Baylor but when you go back 30 years, their record against the Bears is a very good at 40-27. John Roberson led the Red Raiders scoring with 14 points on 62 percent shooting in 37 minutes, including 12 points from behind the 3-point line. Jaye Crockett came up with a game-high six rebounds. Roberson and David Tairu accounted for 45.7 percent of the points.

Last year, the Longhorns put up a record of 2-0 against the Red Raiders, with an average 8-point margin of victory. Texas won the last meeting between the two on February 20, 2010. After leading by 13 points in the second half, the Red Raiders pulled to within one scoring 11 straight points with 58 seconds remaining, before falling 71-67 in Lubbock.

The 14th ranked Longhorns stand at an outstanding 12-3 overall and are playing their first Big 12 game. Meanwhile, the Red Raiders have a record of 8-8 with a 0-1 record in the conference.

Looking at the season averages for this matchup the Longhorns comes out significantly ahead in one particular category while also leading Texas Tech in some others.

Texas is strongest against the Red Raiders in rebounding, a big factor in putting points on the board, where they have the advantage 42 per game to 33 per game. Texas is also ahead in blocked shots, 5 per game to 4 per game. Finally, the Longhorns have personal fouls as well, with just 17 per to their 19 per game. The Red Raiders, however, are better with shooting, 45 to 44 percent.

Over four years, Texas has gone 7-1 against Texas Tech and 3-1 at United Spirit Arena.

I expect this to be closer than most may think staying under.

Free Pick: Texas 73, Texas Tech 69
