Kansas Jayhawks vs. Boston U Terriers Preview

In the history of the Big Dance no #16 seed has ever beaten a #1 seed and I don’t see it happening this season when Kansas (32-2) takes on Boston University (21-13). NCAAB lines have Kansas as HUGE 22.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 136.5.

In their last games Kansas beat Texas 85-73 in the Big 12 conference tournament championship game and Boston U beat Stony Brook 56-54 to capture the American East conference tourney.

This season Kansas was 16-15-1 ATS and Boston U was 8-3-1 ATS.

Boston U did play 2 ranked teams before their conference season began, but they were crushed in both games.

The Jayhawks have a great all around team with the best frontcourt tandem in the nation in the Morris twins in Marcus (17.3 ppg 7.2 rpg) and Markieff (13.6 ppg 8.2 rpg) and guards Brady Morningstar and Tyrel Reed, who are both shooting over 38% from beyond the 3-pt arc.

Boston U is led by G/F John Holland (19.2 ppg 5.9 rpg) and G Darryl Partin (14.5 ppg). These guys can both drain the 3 and for Boston to pull off the monumental upset they will have to shoot lights out from deep and connect on many 3-pt bombs. F Patrick Hazel and Holland are the leading rebounders for the Terriers averaging 5.9 rpg, but they are 6’6” and 6’5” respectively while Markieff Morris is 6”10” and Marcus Morris is 6’9”.

Just by looking at key stats you can tell this game may get ugly. Kansas ranks 5th in the nation in points per game and 19th in the nation in rebounds per game while Boston U only ranks 270th in scoring and 117th in rebounding. Boston U does have a slightly better defense in terms of the stats, but they played a much weaker schedule.

Kansas will easily win this game, but a 22.5-point spread? Tough to call. I think that Kansas will get up early and cruise, but they will not run up the score in the 2nd half and Boston U will at least cover the spread.

Betting Trends

Boston U is 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog of 13.0 or more and Kansas is 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite.

Pick: Boston U ATS
