Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers Preview

In the first round of the Big 12 conference tournament between a couple of teams on the Bubble the Oklahoma State Cowboys (18-12) face the Nebraska Cornhuskers (19-11).

In their last games of the season Nebraska lost to Colorado 67-57 and Oklahoma lost to rival Oklahoma 64-6    1.

Neither team has been a good one to throw some coin on this season with Nebraska at 11-12 ATS and Oklahoma State at 11-13-1 ATS. The Cowboys have covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games against the Huskers.

The Huskers looked like a legit Big Dance pick a couple weeks back, but they played themselves on the bubble losing 3 of their last 4 games. Even though OSU won 2 straight games before losing their season finale they lost 5 of their last 7 games overall. There is a good chance that the loser of this game will not be playing in the NCAA Tournament.

In their one meeting this season the Huskers beat the Cowboys 65-54 at home.

Nebraska will have to win this game with their defense, as they only rank 213th in the nation in scoring. While they do have a good defense ranking 13th in the nation in opponents’ points per game (60.2 ppg) they have given up an average of 69.3 ppg in their last 3 games.

The Huskers only have 2 guys averaging in double figures in G Lance Jeter (11.5 ppg) and F Jorge Brian Diaz (10.5 ppg) and if these guys struggle Nebraska will have to play shutdown defense in order to win.

In the loss at Nebraska on February 12th the Cowboys simply could not shoot the pill shooting 36% from the floor. OSU leading scorer F Marshall Moses (14.7 ppg 7.5 rpg) had 18 points and 6 boards in the loss to the Huskers, but he was the only starter that shot over 50% from the field. He will need scoring help in this game, especially from G Keiton Page (13.1 ppg) and J.P. Olukemi (11.5 ppg). Page has to get back on track in this game, as he has failed to score in double figures in 4 of his last 6 games. If he and the other OSU guards cannot knock down the J the Huskers will pack the lane on defense.

Nebraska has the better defense and that will be the key in this game. Even if both teams struggle to score, which I think they will, the Huskers will come out on top and win this game because of their D.

Betting Trends

Nebraska is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS loss and Oklahoma State is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games and is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning percentage above 60%.
