Colorado Buffalos vs. Kansas State Wildcats Preview

Colorado (20-12) got the important 20-win total in their first round win in the Big 12 conference tournament and of they can beat Kansas State (22-9) in this game it will greatly improve their seeding in the Big Dance.

In their last games Colorado beat Iowa State 77-75 and Kansas State beat Iowa State 67-55 in their season finale. The Wildcats ended the season on fire winning their last 6 games and 3 of those games were against ranked teams.

This season Colorado has been a mediocre betting team at 13-12 ATS while KSU has been less than mediocre at 11-14 ATS.

Colorado not only has confidence in this game coming off a big win, but they also beat Kansas State at home 58-56. In that game the Wildcats only shot 30.8% from the field and star G Jacob Pullen only scored 12 points going 4/12 from the field. Pullen (19.6 ppg) can fill it up and in 5 of his last 6 games he scored more than 20 points.

Colorado does have a solid offense ranking 13th in the nation in scoring led by the duo of G Alec Burks (19.5 ppg) and G Cory Higgins (15.7 ppg). Burks lit it up in the win over Iowa State scoring 29 points and the Wildcats will have to keep him from having a big game.

Kansas State ranks 92nd in the nation in opponents’ points per game.

Pullen will need help on offense from Rodney McGruder (11.4 ppg) and Curtis Kelly (10 ppg). If these guys can score it takes a lot of pressure of Pullen to do it all. When Pullen is not getting much help and he has to provide most of the offense KSU is easier to beat, as he will need some other Wildcats’ players to chip in on offense.

The Wildcats rank 28th in the nation in rebounds per game and Colorado only ranks 130th and the Buffalos had one more rebounds than the Wildcats in the Feb 15th game.

Colorado won 3 of their last 4 games in the regular season and the first round game in the conference tournament and they are flying high heading into this quarterfinals match up. Still, since the Buffaloes are led by their backcourt Colorado will have to shoot the rock well in order to win this game.

Kansas State finished the season on fire winning their last 6 games. Even though Colorado beat Kansas State earlier this season I think the Wildcats will exact some revenge in this game. Kansas State will win this game and cover the spread moving into the Big 12 conference tournament semifinals.
