Colorado Buffalos vs. No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks Preview

In the Big 12 conference tournament semifinals the 2nd ranked Kansas Jayhawks (30-2) can get closer to a #1 seed in the Big Dance if they can beat the Colorado Buffalos (21-12).

The Buffalos have likely made the NCAA Tournament making it to the Big 12 semis and in the quarterfinals they upset 23rd ranked Kansas State 87-75 and Kansas had a tougher time narrowly defeating Oklahoma State 63-62.

This season both teams were decent bets with Kansas at 15-14-1 ATS and Colorado at 14-12. Colorado has covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games against Kansas.

The Jayhawks have won 17 straight against the Buffalos, as Colorado has not beat Kansas since the 2003 season.

Kansas’ leading scorers twins Marcus and Markieff Morris did combine for 26 points on a combined 10/20 shooting in the win over Oklahoma State, but the Jayhawks only shot 35.9% overall. They only shot 20% (5/25) from behind the 3-pt line. However, they may improve on their shooting against a Colorado team that only ranks 291st in the nation in opponents’ points per game. In winning both games against Colorado this season Kansas shot 51.7% from the field and averaged 85 ppg.

With the weak defense Colorado has they will have to win this game with their offense, which ranks 14th in the nation in scoring. In the win over Kansas State Colorado was on fire shooting a scorching 58% from the field and they buried 6 of their 9 3-pt bombs. The backcourt duo of Cory Higgins and Alec Burks combine to score 52 points yesterday and they will likely have to play well in this game to pull off the huge upset.

Kansas has a good defense ranking 72nd in the nation in opponents’ points allowed and in their last 3 games they are giving up 5 fewer points than their season average.

Colorado has to rebound as a team and not allow the Morris twins, who are combining for over 15 rebounds per game, to dominate the boards. That will not be easy, as the 2 leading rebounders for the Buffalos are a couple of guards.

Kansas is a much better team and they will win this game, but the spread will be big when it comes out and the Buffalos are confident and they will cover.

Betting Trends

Colorado is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning percentage above 60% and Kansas is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games.
In the 2 games between these 2 teams each team covered the spread at home.

Pick: Colorado ATS
