The Cornhuskers football program received a lot of attention for their kick off season, but the Huskers hoops team is flying under the radar. Can Nebraska put its name on the map in a hurry with a big win over a nationally ranked Badgers team?

How is Wisconsin winning basketball games this year? A quick look at the team’s defensive statistics shows that this team is winning by locking down their opponent. Wisconsin is giving up just 44.7 points per game, which is easily first in the nation. The team’s opponents are shooting a miserable 33.5% from the floor this season. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

On offense, the Badgers almost never turn the ball over. Bo Ryan’s team averages the second fewest turnovers of any team in the nation. It’s all about ball control and tough defense for the Badgers, and that has been a great recipe for success in the past.

Nebraska is 8-3 this season, but the team hasn’t played a difficult schedule. Doc Sadler’s team is lacking a true quality win. Bo Spencer transferred over from LSU, and he has quickly become the team’s best player. Spencer leads the team in scoring at 16 points per contest. Spencer has an impressive 47 assists, but he has turned the ball over 30 times as well. Jorge Brian Diaz is the main man down low for the Huskers, but he is listed as questionable for this one with a foot injury. Nebraska only gives up 61.1 points per game, but opponents are shooting 36% from three-point range.

Expect a very low scoring game here. Both teams pride themselves on playing strong defense for 40 minutes. Wisconsin should win this one, but I’m not sure it will be as easy as most believe.

Prediction: Wisconsin 54 Nebraska 48
