Alabama

They saw themselves as a potential SEC sleeper but they have really struggled and the SEC just isn’t that good this season.

They did have a big game against Arkansas to close the season and they could possibly be a spoiler again versus an LSU team that is desperate for wins this season.

The Crimson Tide are essentially a one man show and that one man is guard Travis Releford. Releford average 18ppg while shooting an amazing 50% from the field but nobody else is even in double digits.

He has 21 points in an 82-80 win over the Tigers during the regular season. He played all 40 minutes that day and odds are he will have to do so again for them to win.

Alabama has won 4 of their last 5 against the spread but you have to wonder whether that is inspired play or just oddsmakers getting fed up with an underperforming team and perhaps pegging them too low.

The only way they are extending their season is to win this tournament and that seems very unlikely.

LSU

Alabama was a sleeper while LSU was supposed to be a contender. Maybe not quite at the level of Kentucky and Florida but in the next grouping. At the very least they were supposed to stamp their ticket for the big dance during the regular season and not have to add to their resume at this point.

They have not played well down the stretch losing 6 of their last 10 games.

Johnny O’Bryant is a load and at times looks like one of the best post players in America. he was supposed to form a dynamic duo up front with frosh Jarrell Martin but instead it has been freshman Jordan Mickey who has stepped up, the duo averages better than 13 points and 7.5 rebounds per man.

Throw in Martin and this team has enough up front to control the Tide if their guards are good enough.

LSU gets a nice draw for a game they just have to have. As a small favourite they are the logical play but their lack of guards is worrisome at this point of the season.

I would feel comfortable betting a small sum on LSU but I wouldn’t get too aggressive, lots of great opportunities coming soon.

Spread Pick: LSU -3
O/U Pick: N/A
Score Prediction: LSU 70 – Alabama 63
