College Basketball Predictions: 2012 – 2013 NCAAB Title Odds & Preview

NCAA Basketball Top Ten Preview with Odds & Predictions

The NBA has just gotten underway, and college hoops is next on the schedule to tip off. It’s quite a ways until March and the Madness, but it is never too early to start betting on college basketball. In fact, the best college basketball bettors often take advantage of soft lines early in the season.

Let’s take a look at the top ten teams in the nation, and odds on those teams.

All odds listed are from Bovada

#10- Florida Gators

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +1,000

The Gators lost a key guy when Bradley Beal went pro after only one year, but they do still have a ton of talent. Kenny Boynton is a sharpshooter from outside, and he has proven he can hit big shots. Patric Young improved quite a bit last year, and the Gators need him to improve a great deal again this season.

#9- UCLA Bruins

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +2,500

Ben Howland’s team was a massive disappointment last year. Still, this is a group that has far too much talent to overlook. The Wear brothers and Josh Smith could be a devastating combination down low if Smith turns it around this season. Larry Drew II should be solid at the point guard spot, after transferring over from North Carolina.

#8- Duke Blue Devils

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +1,600

Coach K’s team is never one to overlook. Austin Rivers is gone, but Quinn Cook should be a very good distributor at the point guard spot. This isn’t the most talented team that Duke has ever had, but Coach K turns this team into a top ten team every single year. Don’t count on this team experiencing a big drop off this year.

#7- Kansas Jayhawks

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +2,000

Bill Self’s team fell just short of winning another NCAA Championship last season. Losing Thomas Robinson means this team will be a notch lower than they were last season. This team has a lot of guys who are very solid, but there aren’t as many super stars as you typically see on a Kansas Jayhawks team. They’ll still be good.

#6- Ohio State Buckeyes

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +1,200

Aaron Craft is probably the best overall point guard in the nation, which keeps this team high in the rankings despite some clear weaknesses. Deshaun Thomas can score as well as anyone in the nation. Look for Thomas to average at least 20 points per game this season. The Buckeyes don’t have a real scoring threat inside, and they are missing three-point shooters as well. Ohio State should be very good, but I’m not sure they can win it all.

#5- Michigan Wolverines

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +2,000

Michigan has been on the rise over the last few years, and this should be the best team they’ve had since the Fab Five were in town. Trey Burke will be the main man running the show, and he may be the best offensive point guard in the nation. If Tim Hardaway Jr. can put together a better season, this team could really make a run. Keep an eye on Glenn Robinson III, as he leads a very strong freshman class for Michigan.

#4- NC State Wolfpack

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +1,275

The Wolfpack are actually picked to win the ACC Conference this year, and I can’t disagree at all with that prediction. Coach Gottfried did an amazing job with this team last year, and there is no reason why they shouldn’t be even better this year. [ad-6571516]

C.J. Leslie is one of the most versatile players in the nation, and he should be dominating from his forward spot. Watch for Lorenzo Brown to breakout as a star this year too. This team is very dangerous.

#3- Kentucky Wildcats

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +550

Kentucky won’t have the amazing point guard running the show that they have had the past few years, but they’ll still have a tremendous amount of ability on the floor at all times. Nerlens Noel is the best of the bunch, and his athleticism should be game-changing on both ends of the floor. Coach Cal knows how to recruit, and this is a team that shouldn’t have any excuse not to make a deep run in the postseason.

#2- Louisville Cardinals

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +550

Last year’s Louisville team made it into the Final Four, and this year’s team should be quite a bit better. Chane Behanan has the potential to be something special down low, and Peyton Siva is a proven leader at the point guard spot. Gorgui Dieng is a defensive monster, and he should be a little better on offense this year. If Wayne Blackshear can stay healthy, he could be the missing piece this team needs to get over the hump.

#1- Indiana Hoosiers

Odds to win NCAA Championship: +425

Cody Zeller is the favorite for Player of the Year honors in my book. Zeller was tremendous in his freshman season last year, and he should be much better in his second year on campus. This is a guy who can run the floor with the best of the big men, and he doesn’t have any real weaknesses. Jordan Hulls is one of the best shooters in the country, and that should put a ton of pressure on opposing defenses. Victor Oladipo and Christian Watford are important pieces to the puzzle as well. Look for this team to score points in bunches this year. The Hoosiers are stacked heading into the 2012-2013 season.
