Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs Preview
The Grizzlies beat the Spurs in Game 1 and it was their first playoff win ever and their first win in San Antonio this season. They now have a lot of confidence coming into Game 2 even though they are still big underdogs. NBA lines have the Spurs as 8.5-point favorites with a total of 197.
Can the Spurs play any worse than they did in Game 1? I would say no, as they only shot 40% from the filed and their defense was terrible allowing Memphis to shoot a scoring 55.2% from the field.
In Game 1 the Grizzlies covered the spread and this season they were a great team to bet on at 53-29-1 ATS while the Spurs were only a decent wager at 44-37-2.
Tim Duncan had a good game on offense with 16 points and 13 boards, but it was his and the Spurs’ interior defense that was the difference in this game. Big-bodied PF Zach Randolph and C combined to score 49 points and grab 23 rebounds. San Antonio simply could not stop these guys and they will have to do so in this game.
In Game 1 the Spurs were without leading scorer Manu Ginobili and he is questionable for Game 2, but he will likely play. He is the key to San Antonio’s offense, as his penetration opens up the lane and keeps the defense on their heels. One person that really missed him in Game 1 was Tony Parker, who was the high scorer for the Spurs, but he was only 4/20 from the floor.
The Spurs must get better shooting down the stretch, as entering the 4th quarter they had a 4-pt lead, but lost the game by 3. I think Ginobili is the key, but how will he play with his injured elbow?
The Spurs will not shoot as poorly as Game 1 and their D can’t be as bad again, but with the momentum that the Grizzlies have they will cover the spread. However, the Spurs will win this game and even the series at 1-1 before heading to Memphis.
