ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Pelicans have followed up an eight-game losing streak with wins in four of their last six games, while the Raptors lost a heartbreaker in overtime against the Hawks on Tuesday.

The Raptors were victorious in the first meeting between these teams back on Feb. 10. Toronto won the game 108-101 on their home court.

The team got 22 points out of both DeMar DeRozan and Patrick Patterson in that one, while point guard Kyle Lowry had 19 points and 12 assists for the game’s only double-double. Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis had 19 points and seven rebounds in the game, though the team can likely expect more from him this time around.

New Orleans won its last game in a thriller on their home court, 121-120 against Boston in overtime. The team’s top talent, Anthony Davis, had a monster game, scoring 40 points and adding 21 points in the win. He played 48 minutes, and added three assists, three blocks, and a steal.

An underrated aspect of his career performance is that he knocked down all 12 of his free throws, and accumulated only two personal fouls. Head coach Monty Williams said after the game that he believes Davis could have 20 such performances per season.

Davis had lived up to his No. 1 potential this season, racking up 21.4 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game, all tops on the team. He’s gotten even better of late, accumulating 26.9 points and 11.8 rebounds in the month of March.

He’s also hit on 53.2 percent of his shots from the field, and 84.2 percent of his free throws.

As for the Raptors, they ran into a buzzsaw on Tuesday night, as the Hawks’ Paul Millsap continued his hot streak with a triple-double against them in a 118-113 Atlanta win. The loss gives the Raptors their longest losing streak since early February.

The Pelicans may have wins in four of their last six, but those wins aren’t anything to write home about.

The team has wins over bottom-dwellers the Lakers, the Bucks, and the Celtics, and a home win against a bad road team in the Nuggets in that stretch. Meanwhile, the Raptors are desperate to hang on to the third spot in the East and will need to win games like this one, even if it does come on the second night of a back-to-back.

The Raptors are 7-0-1 ATS in the last eight meetings between these teams, and 10-1 ATS in their last 11 trips to New Orleans.

The play: Toronto -1
