ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Los Angeles (25-49) suffered its 49th loss on the season against the Trailblazers on Tuesday, even after they got a season-high 40 points from Nick Young.

The Lakers also had the added benefit of returning center Pau Gasol back into the lineup  from a four-game absence, but the big man was little factor, as was point guard Steve Nash, against Portland, scoring just nine points and grabbing just four rebounds.

While Gasol is expected do a little better against the Kings, it is unlikely that Nash will play in tonight’s contest.

In the meantime,  Kobe Bryant’s injury woes have provided an opportunity for Young, who has become the Lakers most-potent offensive player of the bench this season.

Sacramento (26-48) meanwhile, ended a three-game skid with a 102-97 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.

Center DeMarcus Cousins poured in 35 points and 14 rebounds in the victory over the Pelicans, following a pair of games in which he struggled, netting just 21 points and 11 rebounds during that span.

He had a big outing against New Orleans, however, and it was the third time in five games that Cousins scored more than 30 points.

Cousins has career-best averages of 22.3 points and 11.7 rebounds and has averaged more than 20 points and 10 rebounds in every month this season.

That’s good as the Kings could be without guard Isaiah Thomas, who could miss his fifth straight game.

Matt’s Prediction:

Los Angeles has won the last five meetings, including the past two visits to Sacramento.

The Kings are 15-21 at home, while the Lakers are 11-26 on the road.

Gasol scored 22 of the Lakers 126 points last time the two teams met in LA and pposted 19 when the pair met in Sacramento back in December.

And while Sacramento can put up some points, scoring an average of 101 points per game this season,  the defense has been horrible, giving up more than 103 per outing.

LA like the Kings, has a solid offensive attack, putting up an average of 102.6 points per game, but the Lakers defense has been horrendous this season, ranking 29th in the league, giving up 108.7 points per outing.

It’s a tossup here, but I’m going with the Lakers.

Lakers 111, Kings 105
