If you appreciated the way Detroit hammered its way to an NBA championship and other appearances in the NBA Finals, you are probably a little disappointed in the way the Pistons have regressed. naturally, some key players get old, but that’s really not the case here. What has happened is that Detroit’s lack of a true center has come back to haunt it, and Joe Dumars traded away a player who was all about team chemistry (Chauncey Billups) for someone who doesn’t go out of his way to promote it (Allen Iverson).

The Pistons are only four games over the .500 mark, and it is only the fact that the East is not packed with quality teams that keeps them well positioned for a playoff spot. Detroit used to be almost impregnable at home, but at present they are just 7-17 ATS at the Palace. Does that work against a Miami team that is coming off its best home scoring output of the year in a 24-point win over the Clippers?

Well, maybe. Daequan Cook has a thigh problem and he is not making the trip to Detroit with the Heat. When you look at that Miami roster, it is not very deep at all. Beyond Dwyane Wade, who leads the league in scoring, there is not a heck of a lot of offensive punch, or at least that which is consistent. But Shawn Marion had 11 points off the bench the other night, so things are getting better (Marion was just coming back to the lineup after five games out).

The Pistons have handled Miami pretty well recently, winning the last five meetings. In the last two games the Heat has really struggled, scoring a total of 144 points. of course, before we get carried away with that, understand that Miami was competing with what was essentially a D-League roster in those games. Even though, as we mentioned, they’re not particularly deep, it’s still an NBA-level lineup.

Let’s take the points with Miami, the four__-point underdog in the BetUS NBA pro basketball sports betting odds, over a sinking Pistons squad, and watch as they extend their streak to four straight covers at the Palace.
