One of the more entertaining playoff series in the NBA playoffs this spring faces its first critical point when the Memphis Grizzlies host the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of their Western Conference semifinals series on Friday night.

The Thunder took a 3-2 series lead after the Thunder dominated the Grizzlies in a blowout 99-72 triumph. For the first time in these playoffs, the Grizzlies face an elimination game. Memphis needed to look no further than the key stats in the box score to figure out why they lost Game 5, and what needs to improve for them to win Game 6.

The Thunder shot 47.4 percent from the floor, including 9-for-20 from three-point range, which was good for 45 percent overall. The Grizzlies, conversely, shot just 35.9 percent from the field, and were just 2-for-8 from three-point land. The Thunder were also dominant on the glass. Oklahoma City outrebounded Memphis in Game 5 50-33, including a 15-8 edge in offensive boards.

The Thunder continues to count on their dynamic duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, as they both reached double figures for Oklahoma City in Game 5. For the series, Durant is averaging 27.7 point per game and 6.8 rebounds, while Westbrook is averaging 21.9 points and 8.2 assists per contest.

The Grizzlies will need their players to step up and play their best game of the series. Zach Randolph has been the best player in this post-season for Memphis, and in this series he has averaged 20.1 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. However, in their Game 5 loss, the big man for Memphis scored just nine points while spending most of the game in foul trouble, limiting his effectiveness.

Tony Allen and Mike Conley will need better efforts as well. Conley, who is averaging 13 points per contest in this series, scored nine points in Game 5. Allen, slowed by a knee injury that kept him out of practice on Tuesday, scored eight points in 27 minutes.

It will be an all-hands-on-deck approach for Memphis facing elimination on Friday.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Grizzlies – Memphis has been great at home in these playoffs, with their only loss at FedEx Forum coming in triple overtime in Game 4 of this series. The Grizzlies will make one last stand and force a Game 7 by feeding off the energy of their home crowd.
