The Bulls-Pacers series is the latest example of why 1-8 series in the NBA exist only to make money and reward the fans of teams of weaker teams that have zero chance of actually winning a championship.

Indiana caught the Bulls sleeping in Game 1 before expiring. They made Chicago extend itself a little in Game 2, and just as everyone figured pushed Game 3 to the wire before going down. The few Pacers fans who thought there was a chance of winning this series now know that from now on the teams are playing only to comply with the NBA regulation which requires a team to win four games before moving on.

The only question now for the Pacers is whether they will go hard for 48 today and make Chicago work, or cash it in mentally and lose by when the Bulls make their first run. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Frank Vogel must be concerned with one disturbing fact. Against Chicago’s smothering defense Indiana is getting less productive each game. After shooting a halfway-decent 46.4 percent from the floor in the opener, the Pacers shot well under 40 percent in Games 2 (35.3) and 3 (38.9). The Bulls are so good on the perimeter that a jump-shooting team has no chance unless it shoots lights-out.

The Bulls, meanwhile, find themselves in position A. Victory today might buy them a full week off as they await the winner of the Atlanta-Orlando series that seems destined to go at least six games and will probably go the full seven.

NBA Trends:

CHI are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games.
Under is 14-6 in CHI last 20 vs. NBA Central.
Under is 13-6 in IND last 19 Sat. games.

BEST BET: Ball game for the Pacers, who really had only a bit part in the playoffs and will be forgotten as soon as this series is put to rest. But Indiana had a nice second half of the season and has something to build on if labor strife doesn’t interrupt next season. Chicago minus the 4.5 today in the series’ only real blowout.
