That opener was close in the early going. The Nets were behind by just three points heading into the break, but the Heat came up with a big third quarter, outscoring the Nets by 10 in the frame, then running away in the fourth quarter, where they outscored the Nets by eight points. In the end, it was the Heat putting an end to the very heavily publicized four-game winning streak the nets had in the regular season series.

The Heat were of course led by LeBron James, who scored a game-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting, adding five rebounds and three assists. Dwyane Wade chipped in 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting, filling out his stat line with five assists, four rebounds, and two steals. The third member of the big three, Chris Bosh, had the game’s only double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

As for the Nets, they actually played a decent game, hitting on 47.1 percent of their field goals, and 41. Percent of their three-pointers. Point guard Deron Williams scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while shooting guard Joe Johnson matched his 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, with each player knocking down three shots from beyond the arc.

The difference in the game came down to offensive efficiency. The Nets hit on an impressive 47.1 percent of their shots from the field, but the Heat hit on 56.8 percent of theirs. The Heat were also helped tremendously by an ultra-efficient performance from Ray Allen, who hit on 6-of-10 shots from the field, and 4-of-7 shots from beyond the arc for 19 points, while chipping in four rebounds and three assists.

The Heat have their sights set on the prize, and there doesn’t appear to be anything that can get them off their game. The Nets stayed competitive with them during the regular season, but this is a whole different ball game. The Heat’s big three should again take control of this game.

Additionally, the teams hit on a very high percentage of their shots, without turning the ball over much in Game 1. A repeat performance seems unlikely. The scoring total should come down as the sides begin to miss their shots.

Playoff Trends

The Heat are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall, and 22-8-1 ATS in their last 31 conference semifinal games.

The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these teams in Miami, and 4-1 in the Nets’ last five conference semifinals game.

The play: Miami -8, Over 192
