The story of the Heat’s season has been inconsistent play. One night they look like they can be beat by anybody.
Another night, they look like they can beat the best in the NBA. As they hold onto the 7 seed in the East, they’ll hope to follow up one of their most impressive performances of the season after routing the Suns 115-98.
Back-to-backs just haven’t been the Lakers thing this season.
They come into this matchup just 1-9 in the 2nd leg of back-to-backs following their 104-103 loss in Charlotte on Tuesday. Jeremy Lin played perhaps his best game of the season going for 23 points and dishing out 8 assists. However, in the end, the Lakers couldn’t find anybody clutch to step up down the stretch as they ultimately fell in the contest.
That being said, Byron Scott is encouraged by his team’s efforts following talks of “tanking the season.” Scott realized more fans want the Lakers to continue to lose in hopes of getting a better draft position. Scott though wants his team to develop and build some team chemistry as they look to get ready for next season when they welcome back Kobe Bryant.
The Lakers could be without F Nick Young once again on Wednesday. Young has missed 3 straight games with a sore knee and is listed as questionable for their encounter with the Heat. Should he not be able to go, Ryan Kelly will likely be in the starting line up once again.
Kelly is averaging just 5.1 points a game. He dropped in 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds last night.
Los Angeles will look to play the spoiler role, but they’ve struggled on the road this season. The Lakers are just 7-23 away from home.
With just 23 games left in the regular season, not even some Miami fans could have seen this coming. Through all the injuries and losing streaks, the Heat find themselves in the 7th spot in the Eastern Conference. The acquisition of Goran Dragic was a key piece the Heat needed as they attempt to hold onto their spot in the playoffs.
Dragic continues to shine for Miami. He dropped in 21 points in the win over his former team on Monday. His success against the Lakers has been impressive this season as well. Dragic is averaging 20.5 points in 4 meetings with Los Angeles and comes in off a 24 point and 9 rebound performance last time he met them.
The blessing for the Heat has been F Hassan Whiteside. Whiteside was rejected by many teams when looking to help, but Miami took a flyer on him. They certainly don’t regret this move by any means.
Whiteside is averaging nearly a double-double with 10.3 points and 9.6 rebounds a game.
In his last 5 games, he’s averaged 14.8 points and 13.6 rebounds.
