The Cavs will look to get back on track when they head to Washington to take on John Wall and the Washington Wizards.

Cleveland

When Lebron decided to come back to Cleveland, fans and media were wondering how high their win total would be.

Lesson learned, games are not played on paper. While ten games is such a small sample size, the Cavs are not even close to panic mode yet. The Cavs struggles are always in the spotlight and look worse due to the high national media attention.

Cavaliers head coach David Blatt preached defense all pre season long. He wanted his team to force opponents into shooting with just a couple seconds left on the shot clock. That has not been the case thus far as the Cavs allow 103.1 points per game (23rd).

Their road defense is even worse, as they allow 106.6 points per contest. Stopping penetration into the paint and not allowing opponents to crash the offensive glass are an absolute must when they take on Washington.

Even with such poor defense, the Cavs typically find themselves in games late. That is because of their dynamic offense averaging 105.0 points per game (5th).  Lebron leads the high scoring offense with 25.9 points a game. The problem for Lebron has been taking care of the basketball. He is turning the ball over 4.0 times per game, especially in late situations.

Washington

Although a 7-3 record is nothing to be upset about, Paul Pierce told his team they need to “grow up” following failed execution down the stretch in their 105-102 loss against Dallas. The Wizards success this season has come at the Verizon Center where they are 4-1 S.U. this season.

Another key to success this season for the Wizards has come from sharing the basketball. Washington ranks 4th overall in the NBA with 24.5 assists a game. That is thanks in large part to PG John Wall, who is averaging 9.3 assists per game.

For the 17th ranked offense (99.0 points per game), they are happy to finally have SG Bradley Beal back. In Beal’s first game back, he dropped 21 points, including three 3 pointers.

The offensive numbers should rise in the coming games for the Wizards with a boost from Beal, who replaces the struggling Garrett Temple.

NBA Basketball Handicapping Trends:

  • Cavaliers are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 vs. NBA Southeast.
  • Cavaliers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
  • Wizards are 7-15 ATS in their last 22 Friday games.
  • Cavaliers are 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Washington.

Friday NBA Basketball

While the Cavs have problems with chemistry and defense, they’re real close to getting this turned around. Thanks to media perception, the coming games could be a good time for Cavs backers to find value in the number.
