Charlotte

For a while the Hornets looked like they might make it into the playoffs but ultimately they were exposed for being not that good and not that deep.

This is the last game of the season and there is nothing to play for but this team generally plays well against the Raptors. The question is which team are we going to see on the floor and for how long. This has been a disappointing season and they are not going to turn that around by making a max effort on the final night of the year.

The Hornets will be playing all of their reserves up front, in part due to injury so expect a lot of unimpressive rookie Noah Vonleh and others. I do expect the backcourt of Kemba Walker and Gerald Henderson to play but they are coming off a terrible game in which they shot a combined 3 for 20. They are not going to want to keep that taste in their mouth for long and I expect them to play well.

Toronto

The Raptors fell at Boston last night in their final road game of the regular season.

They had been looking to build some momentum for the postseason which makes this game against the Hornets to close the season all that more important. It is also a chance to the Raptors to set a franchise record by winning 49 games in a season. Toronto has one of the best home environments in the NBA and I think it could be a factor as they close out the regular season and build for playoff success.

Toronto rested DeMar DeRozan last night and there is no word yet on whether he will also sit against Charlotte. The Raptors Amir Johnson, an underrated member of their rotation, was back in action though, contributing 8 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.

This final game of the season is essentially meaningless but they will get everyone on the floor to avoid any rust from collecting.
