Houston

The Rockets are playing some good ball right now having won 8 of their last 10.

They lost their last game at home against Portland but games like that happen in the West.

They are still without Dwight Howard who is not expected to be available until mid-March.

Given the talent they have and the work they have already done that shouldn’t hinder them too much, if anything it gives them a chance to improve their depth. In this matchup his loss should not be felt too much especially.

No Dwight Howard has been meaning more time for the likes of Donatas Motiejunas and Joey Dorsey.

Motiejunas looks like he has some game but more than anything it means that this team plays a little smaller with the likes of Josh Smith and Terrence Jones off the bench.

No Howard means more of the scoring load falls on James Harden but that doesn’t bother him at all.

He dropped 45 against Portland in the loss.

Phoenix

The Suns are going through a bit of a rough patch, losing 4 of their last 5.

This is their last game before the break and they will be looking to have some momentum to carry through their 10 day layoff. These teams met just a few weeks ago with Houston winning by just a couple of points, also at Phoenix.

Howard was a non-factor in that game but the Suns still couldn’t close it out.

The Suns are in a fight for that final playoff spot in the West and have to take advantage of every opportunity at home. They are not a huge road threat.

Leading scorer Eric Bledsoe missed the Suns last game for personal reasons but is expected to be back in the lineup Tuesday night.

The truth is on any given night the top point getter for Phoenix could be one of any six players, all of whom are averaging at least 10ppg.

Phoenix can be a hard team to handle but they also only really have one way to win. With C Alex Len out they are even more limited.

NBA Handicapping Trends:

  • Rockets are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a SU loss of more than 10 points.
  • Over is 5-1 in Rockets last 6 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
  • Over is 5-1 in Rockets last 6 games following a double-digit loss at home.
  • Under is 5-0 in Suns last 5 games following a ATS loss.
  • Under is 6-0 in Suns last 6 games following a S.U. loss.
  • Under is 5-0 in Suns last 5 when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.
  • Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Phoenix.
  • Rockets are 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.

NBA Prediction:  Phoenix -1.5

I think this spot sets up nicely for the Suns.

NBA Score prediction:  Phoenix 104 – Houston 99

They are short favourites at home and that is always a situation you want to take advantage of.
