Not exactly must see TV but there is some reason to watch.

Detroit

The Pistons made the smart play in jettisoning Josh Smith. Since they released them they have won two games in a row, both by double digits, and most recently smoking LeBron and Cavs by 23 points.

Everyone knew that Smith was a bit of a cancer for that team and I applaud the organizations for having the guts to make the decisive move. It is way too late to make enough of a difference for this season.

But you never know.

They are 6.5 games back but there is a lot of hoops still to be played.

With Smith gone Greg Monroe has been inserted into the starting lineup.

Monroe is a very versatile big man who was already filling stat sheets so this move won’t make his numbers explode, it just makes sense and means he can positively impact a game even sooner.

I like what this move does for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who is still learning how to be an NBA player.

He should see some growth to his game now.

Orlando

It has not been a good season for the Magic but they have been playing better lately.

Last night they won a close game against the Heat and they have won 3 of their last 4.

This team really struggles scoring so it is no coincidence that their wins have come in games when they have scored 100 points or more.

That doesn’t happen very often and since this not an elite defensive team it is no surprise that they are losing a lot of games.

With both teams playing better lately this should be a game.

The go to guy as usual is center Nikola Vucevic.

He is just a smidge behind Tobias Harris in terms of scoring average but he does so much more in an efficient way.

Speaking of Harris he has increased his efficiency as well and it is paying off with much better numbers.

He is more of a mix between a 3 and a 4 and his rebounding comes in handy because the Magic can not afford to give opponents more opportunities to score.

4* NBA Prediction:  Detroit +1

Orlando is hardly a team built to perform well on back to backs.
