Both of these teams are looking to show they are contenders this season but neither is off to a strong start. One will be at .500 after this one

Charlotte

It has been a bad start for Charlotte, a supposed sleeper in the East. They needed overtime to dispatch a terrible Milwaukee team in the opener and since then have dropped two straight.

Both games were very close but ones they were expected to win against Memphis at home and New York on the road. Getting things back on track on the road is never easy in pro sports but that is what they are trying to do. The East is going to be very tight and if they slump too much it could be a big problem.

Charlotte is playing strong defense but the offense hasn’t come together yet.  Big Al Jefferson is leading the team in scoring at 18ppg but new acquisition Lance Stephenson has been in a shooting slump to start the season, shooting just 30%.

Thankfully he is contributing in other ways leading the team in rebounding with 10 per game. Until they get more regular offense from other sources it is going to be difficult to hang with good teams.

New Orleans

New Orleans is another sleeper team that has yet to wake this season. They actually profiel very similarly to Charlotte in that they are solid in their own end while not putting a lot of points on the board.

They also won their opener and followed that by losing their following two contests…including one to Memphis. This is a chance to right the ship at home and they need to do so because unlike Charlotte the Grizzlies play in the uber competitive West. Falling against East teams could mean the difference.

Forward Anthony Davis continue to develop at an accelerated rate.

His scoring and rebounding have been excellent and he is helped in the latter by Omer Asik, who can handle the banging down low. I love what I am seeing from Tyreke Evans who is an awesome secondary scorer.

He is facilitating too making this a dangerous team. New Orleans has what it takes they just need to start banking some wins.

NBA Handicapping Trends:

  • Hornets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Tuesday games.
  • Hornets are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record.
  • Over is 4-1 in Hornets last 5 road games.
  • Pelicans are 0-2-2 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
  • Pelicans are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
  • Over is 7-0 in Pelicans last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

NBA Prediction:  New Orleans -3

Defense generally travels well but it is hard to expect the Hornets to get enough offense right now to pull off the upset.

4* FREE NBA Score prediction:  New Orleans 97 – Charlotte 91

Likely this one is close and salted away by the Pelicans down the stretch.
